If anything Donkey Kong should be in the Olympics.
Didn't they do something like that for a TV show? King of Kong, I think it was called.

Some of those dudes are pretty awesome at Donkey Kong, but I don't think they could play at Olympics =/

I despise Starcraft, and I'm not afraid to admit it. It created the stupid base-building, and resource gathering concepts that I wish would fall of the earth and die. Anyone who still plays it online knows how to meta-game it to hell and back. The gameplay was good for its time, but today is pretty tired. IMO, a lot of people who think it's the best RTS of all time is looking through the Nostalgia glasses, because alot of really great RTSs have come out since then, that are, IMO vastly superior.

silly thread is silly.

Starcraft should not be in the olympics, unless WoW is in the olympics as well. Putting video games into the olympics would disgrace the entire tournament, not to mention putting fucking starcraft in there...

Name one mental sport in the olympics and I would agree, but I feel that the olympics is there to show off someone's physical strength.

Hey, I have a hard enough time accepting ballroom dancing as an Olympic "sport". And now we're talking Starcraft? I think my head would implode.

If any video game should be in the Olympics, it should be Pong.

No.

The Olympics is about physical and athletic achievement. Starcraft is about tactics and reflexes.

What a nice, ignorant statement. Of course, it's not like the most popular games are 18+, no. Every popular game is 3+.

Games are fundamentally toys, however, not all toys have to be for children, for example, balls are fundamentally toys.

starcraft is already in the "olympics" called World Cyber Games.

To be honest, Violetak, DiggitySC, and KlazartSC on youtube are way better commentators than gomtv.

Not going to tell you your wrong on your opinion, and you're entitled to it (and the whole meta-game idea is exactly why I only play it offline), but it didn't start the base building/ resource gathering thing. If we're talking Blizzard's style, that started with Warcraft. If we're talking RTS's in general, the original Command and Conquer did it a few years before Starcraft was even announced. I'm not sure about before that, but just figured I'd let you know, don't hate Starcraft for what's been done before.

Oh. Well that would explain it, as C&C was another one I couldn't stand. :D

Toy, Noun.
1. an object, often a small representation of something familiar, as an animal or person, for children or others to play with; plaything.
No. It's a toy. Just like comic books are a medium for child entertainment. Then they started specializing for adults.

Look where they are now. I'd rather keep gaming a toy, thanks.

So I guess a ball is a toy too, right? Then people playing football or basketball are big kids that didn't grow out of it.

Another example - many kids in USA play baseball. Does this mean it's only for kids? No? But it fits your definition.

Also, while your definition states that toy is something to play with, not every game is JUST for playing (just for playing = mindless fun without any other messages). Oh, and definition says "for children or OTHERS". Others means people in general. So while some games = toys, not all toys = just kids.

If anything should be added to the Olympics, it should be jousting on horseback...or maybe Track and Field II on the NES using the Power Pad.

Did anyone ever play KKND cross fire? It was, to all intents and purposes, a gigantic rip off of Starcraft, but shit it was fun. Nuclear Holocaust, Some humans are mutated, some humans are fine. War breaks out, unmutated humans burn crops that they think mutants are hiding in. Farmer droids that the humans created are pissed off and join in the 3 way war. It was a really cool game, every team had unique units, and there was a system where you could design your own weapons by deciding what base you wanted it to have, and then putting a different armament on top of it.

GTA is 18+, i'm sure it's pretty safe to say that the majority of GTA players are under 18.

also, the point which most of you have missed about starcraft, is that saying it's still popular in south korea is an epic understatement. it's not nostalgia, because most of the new pro players are teenagers - they were <6 years old when starcraft was fresh.

south korea is completely crazy about starcraft, i've never seen anything like it. it's the closest a video game has ever come to being recognised as a national sport.

i guess that the western world just got fed up of losing to koreans.

i'm gonna go ahead and be a little controversial here and say that koreans have more success with the brain games than america/europe. guild wars is another big hit with the koreans, which is like world of warcraft except you need a good brain to play it.
