I watch SG Atlantis, but to be honest, my motives are less than pure. I initially watched strictly cuz Jason Momoa is drool worthy, but I did find myself enjoying the show. However, it is, at times, rather repetitive in terms of story line.

Start with the original film and then watch SG-1. Atlantis starts at the same time as season 8 of SG-1. The film "Ark of Truth" takes place pretty much immediatly after the end of season 10 of SG-1 and I think "Continuum" takes place just after episode 1 of season 5 of Atlantis. Universe has only just started.

Sooooooooooooooo, I'm guessing this is NOT the right place to admit I've never watched Stargate and frankly just to piss a mate of mine of have absolutely NO intention of ever watching it?

Start with watching the original film (optional), then Stargate SG-1, then Continuum and Ark of Truth, then Stargate Atlantis and finally Stargate Universe.

Oh, and stay the fuck away from Stargate Infinity.

As other people said, the first few seasons of SG-1 are the best. It's just not the same once O'neil left (kind of). Atlantis is well worth watching too, and I heard good things about Universe, although I haven't seen it yet.

WATCH STARGATE. It is one of the best Sci-fi series out there.

I would argue that it is the BEST sci-fi show ever. Star Trek is nice and all, but Star Gate covers more ground and has a more coherent overarching universe.

*cough cough* doctor who *cough* (yeah I know it's an opinion )

But yeah watch the 1994 movie, then watch the tv show, if not for the story, watch for Richard Dean Anderson and also Christopher Judge. The Teal'c - O'neill conversations are an absolute blast (especially the one in the flashback in season 10 where O'neill was invisible)

Atlantis has a more futuristic and technological tone to it and Universe... well... ge tto watching Sg1 and Atlantis then you can fully enjoy Universe!

The order you should watch;

Stargate (movie)
SG-1 (seasons 1-7)

Then alternate between Atlantis and SG-1 for the following 3 seasons for each, as they cross over at several points.

Then comes Ark of Truth, followed by season 4 of Atlantis and the opening episode of season 5. Then watch Continuum. Then it's back over to season 5 of Atlantis before moving on to Universe.

It sounds more confusing than it is.

It actually is pretty good. I hate Star Trek and Star wars so i was skeptical of watching something with "Star" as the first word of its title.

But i liked it.
