I shook hands with my Governor Deval Patrick when I was campaigning for youth jobs. Wasn't expecting it at all.

I don't know if this counts, because he's not exactly famous, but I went to a pastry demonstration taught by Roland Mesnier (the white house executive pastry chef from 1979-2004). He signed a copy of his book afterwards. It was pretty neat, but I wasn't "starstruck".

I met Steven Tyler from Aerosmith at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in New Hampshire.

I also met Pierce Brosnan during the filming of "Die Another Day" when I was on a cruise ship with my family. Too bad I didn't know in advance how bad that movie was going to be when I met him.

I've met Tony Robbins, but that's nothing special.

Related to this thread, George Takei posted recently on his Facebook that he met Patrick Stewart on a plane once. He realized who it was and said, "Aren't you..." to which Patrick replied, "Aren't you?"

I assume the two had met each other before that because of Star Trek, even though they were on different shows, but it always makes me smile. Being on that plane must have been amazing for all the other passengers.

Brandon Sanderson once talked at my middle school. I thought it was interesting. He actually did it at my high school a while ago, but it slipped my mind and I didn't go.

I briefly met Chester Bennington of Linkin Park at the Best Buy I used to work at. He was there to pick up an online order. I had him sign the receipt... which I should have kept.
As a fan of the band, I'm extremely jealous. I've been wanting to meet one of the band members for about 8 years now.

The singer from Reel Big Fish was a complete twat to me.

The guitarist from Voodoo 6 is a very cool bloke.

Eric Bristow, famous darts player, is a complete wanker. I used to work in a bar and he would be booked to come and play darts against customers. He was so far up himself it wasn't funny, he was rude to customers and staff and generally acted as if he was better than being there.

My friend was verbally abused by Sean Lock during a show.

Ritzy Brian from The Joy Formidable walked past me after a show last year, she obviously didn't want to be hassled as indictated by the big bouncer following her.

I told the singer from The Young Guns that they weren't the worst support act I'd ever seen. Faint praise I know but he seemed to accept it.

The singer from Baddies was cool enough to have a quick conversation with me despite carrying and obviously very heavy bit of equipment.

I got incredibly tongue tied trying to talk to the guitarist from Health for some reason. I blame Crystal Castles for boring me into a state of braindeadness.

If I've met anyone famous, I certainly don't remember it. My parents have though. Tom Izzo, the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans basketball team, was the assistant coach at Northern Michigan when my dad played there.

My parents sat near Magic Johnson in a diner once. I'm not sure if they actually talked to him, but it's close enough, so I'm counting it.

My mom knows Shemane Nugent (Ted Nugent's wife) through her ridiculous obsession with Zumba.

Claude Shannon went to the same high school as me. I'm going to count that too, even though he died when I was 8.

I think the closest I've gotten to any recognition by anyone even remotely famous was a couple of weeks ago when Mason Storm, singer of Teamheadkick, answered a question of mine on his Q&A. It's not much, but that's all I got.

Bruce Willis.

Samuel L. Jackson.

Liv Tyler.

Steve Buscemi.

A few other famous people, but not "celebrities" (primarily famous designers, artists and photographers).

I met with Weird Al Yankovic a few years back. I could only get out a sentence I was so star struck (Oh, childhood). We shook hands, took a picture and he signed my CDs. (His first and latest at the time) Pretty humble and nice guy and I'm sure he would have stuck around and chatted up some more with my mom if he hadn't just finished an amazing show.

While not really a celebrity in the traditional sense, my neighbor across the street (not anymore, though, I moved) was one of the police officers on scene who apprehended the BTK Killer. He was a really great guy. He also really REALLY liked motorcycles.
I did also once meet George W. Bush. Say what you want about politics and his presidency and all that (I don't have an opinion), but he was a genuinely friendly man.

I've shook hands with this same woman, she was nice enough. She even told me she was a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen which is kinda cool.
