Is the loading time supposed to be that obnoxiously slow?

It takes literally a minute to get to the title screen; I timed it myself.

That is not supposed to happen. Might it have anything to do with your system? Are any other games acting up? How's the disc look?

How old is your PS3? Older models have harder times loading up newer games as time passes, and if you have one of the backward compatible ones your system will already be a tad slow due to not having as much RAM as later models.

If not, then check NPC009's suggestions, as it shouldn't take that long at all.

I've got a 320, so it's the model just before the current model.

Tales of Xillia took only about half a minute to load.

I... don't think that's supposed to that long either. My system (a fairly old slim, with original 120GB HDD) is like PRRR. BRRR. Wait for it... Game starts. Can't take more than a few seconds.

You know what, I'm going to grab my Xillia 2 and see how long it takes. Back in sec.

Edit: timed it. 9 seconds from clicking the disc to the Namco Bandai logo appearing.

Yeah, those stupid company logos take a while... But that's not exactly loading, is it? I mean, it might still be doing some of that in the background, but it's real purpose is making you bask in the light of the glorious Namco Bandai logo in case you forgot who made the game.

Talking about it, Tales of Xillia 2 might be the best tales games in recent years and might actually beat Vesperia, everything I hated with Xillia was fixed and the game gets really fucking dark.
It was so great to see the series finally embrace its dark side. Sure, we caught glimpses of it in games like the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia (doesn't matter what pretty colours you paint your world, we know what kind of camp that is supposed to be!) but they finally had the guts to go there. And show blood. So glad to see some actual blood!

Story wise Xilia 2 was much better than the first installment. Gameplay wise it fell really short for me. Like 98% of the environments are lifted straight from the first game, and not only do you get to backtrack through them all, you have to grind in them endlessly to pad out the game time because the story content is literally locked behind grinding milestones in addition to the usual "you must be X level to kill this boss" gates you find in jrpgs.

It was a fun game but it could have been so much better.

Oh, I agree there. Xillia was a rush job and they carried that over to its sequel. The fact that they didn't even update Fennmont (and instead retconned the fading spirit clime) was pretty sad. I did like some of the new dungeons, though, as few in number as they were. And to be competely honest, I didn't even mind the grindy bits that much. It's an extremely lazy way to pad the game, but the battle system and quick travel made these parts at the very least bearable.

I'm really hoping the took a good look at Xillia's and Xillia 2's shortcomings and don't repeat the same mistakes in Zestiria. Game is looking good thus far so I'm hopeful.

I meant thirty seconds altogether, including all the logo stuff. Anything up to the opening.

When I mention a time, it's how long it takes to get to the game itself.

Oh, okay. I figured you meant actual loading times, not the logos they make you look at.
