Well, I just picked up State of Decay and so far, what a ride it has been. The resource gathering, combat, and permadeath all come together to make a truly fascinating game. I've had a few really cool moments so far and was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences.

I was driving when I hit a rock the wrong way, flipping over, which propelled me through the air, and I then landed hard. Then, as a horde was chasing me, I ran to a nearby house in hope for some tactical advantage. And a zombie immediately left the house and moved at me. So I started to run away and was winded this time. Out of breath, I staggered along, barely avoiding and dodging zombies, when a zombie leapt through the air, pounced on me, and began tearing me apart. Then the rest of the horde showed up. Lost a rifle, some experience, and a baseball bat. RIP Maya.

Yeah its a pretty fun game, the best bits are of course when it all goes pear-shaped :) Running out of stamina is bad news.

I havn't lost any characters by my own hand yet but have had some close calls with maya:

- Had to flee a siege mission because a passing hoarde got alerted on top of what the group was already fighting. Had nothing left and had to kick my way out of the house. I collected all the dead peoples backpacks later.

- Got stuck on top of a corn tower for a while because a horde was crowding around the base of the ladder. Tried to shoot them but accidently fell off the tower, cue a mad run to a nearby car.

This may have been story-related so don't know if it happens to everyone:

- Pastor got infected and the cop-guy (forgot his name) decided to shoot him. Everybody got mad at that, 20 minutes later the cop was infected so I had to take him someplace quiet to shoot him.

Have to say i'm not finding the survival parts of the game too hard at the moment. Plenty of food, ammo and medicine. I have played my fair share of survival horror games though. Would be cool if they could include an ass-kicking difficulty or something.

Ah. I remember the time one of the fat pricks was attacking a house during a siege mission so I kept ramming into the bastard with my car until it died. I didn't want to risk pushing it any further so I got out and started killing zombies with my melee weapon. It broke. I think I was left to kill around a dozen zombies with my bare hands and no items. It was awesome.

I really want to play this game. They are taking their sweet fucking time with the PC port, aren't they?

Oh well. Waiting is the price I pay for refusing to support anything Microsoft in the wake of Xbone.

After I dive bombed out of a car towards a field for no reason the car hit a fence and got launched into the air and caught on fire. It hit a few on the way down. It was neat.

There's also a lot of glitches and stuff that combine with the actual working mechanics that make things really absurd. I remember getting flown under and then across the street straight into a rock resulting in getting downed, by doing an execution on a zombie that was doing a weird floaty glide on the floor.

God damn I wish this game gets co-op.

Also agreed. Been waiting for this to come out for a year, and now I still have to wait.

Just got into to this game.

Most of my mains were tired or hurt (Marcus, Maya, Ed, the Chef who sounds like RDJ and resembles Jacob Ritter so much I think Lily's dad must have been cuckolded).

So I was just gathering some supplies with Jacob Ritter. Known caches of foods or medicine I'd seen earlier and I was avoiding even the slightest group of zombies, just driving around at night in a sedan.

I got a radio call that a nearby enclave in the first town needed a distraction, I figured I was safe in the car and it was easy. So I raced up there. Honked my horn a few times and succeeded. But on the way back to the farm I ran into a big bastard on the middle of the road, I swerved to avoid him but didn't realise the shoulder of the road was actually cliff.

The car went over the ledge, I was flung out, I started to hoof it towards some shelter and the car exploded drawing zeds from all around. All I had was a baton, no meds and a revolver with 6 shots no spare rounds. A big group tried to swamp me and I managed to shoot a few as Jacob's fighting skills hadn't been levelled up.

With practically no health and exhausted I found a pickup in the trailer park and managed to get home safely.

Jacob spent nearly the next week in the infirmary recovering from massive blood loss, but I felt it was just the sort of stupid situation he'd get into and was glad I hadn't lost Lily's only living relative.

It's story related (but he can die earlier). The place I had to put him down in was the same Vet Clinic we raided together earlier in the same. While the guy was a dick, I appreciated how calmly he let me put him down. I used a pistol to make it clean.

I didn't really get any cool incidents out of this game.

I basically answered every problem with, "Car!"

"Oh no, a horde is attacking!" "Alright, I'll run them all over with my car."
"Oh no, you're being chased!" "It's okay, I'll just drive away in my car."
"Oh no, you're low on health and out of stamina!" "Righto, I'll just take shelter in this car."

Although there was this one scripted mission early when an NPC told me it was time to make an escape and go home. So I went and got in a car and pulled up next to them. They then proceeded to yell at me for making noise and told me to get out of the car. So I did. Then we started hoofing it back home. After a while one of them gets injured and then they're like, "This isn't working, we should find a car!" I tired to execute them before their terminal stupidity got me killed, but they were impervious to shotgun fire.

At one point the Power of Car failed me because Maya seemed to suddenly forget how a car door works. So I ended up surrounded, out of stamina and swarmed. Maya goes down and I'm thinking, "Oh shit, I'm finally about to lose a character, and it's my best one!" Then the game goes, "Nope, just kidding! Mash spacebar to mysteriously survive the mauling and have you stamina refilled!" I didn't know whether to be relieved or disappointed.

It's an oldish thread. Mild necromancy on my behalf.

Tried out the PC version.
The combat/shooting controls are pretty awful.
Still managed to max out my resource stockpiles and a parking lot full of cars waiting to be repaired... While apparently my designated mechanic was endlessly travelling the wilderness and committed to not repairing the cars.
A better UI and more tooltip info would be handy, especially regarding upgrades. Is this upgrade permanent? Temporary? Repeatable?
"Oh no, you accidently initiated removal of your level 3 workshop due to a poorly-designed UI? Sorry, I'm afraid there's just no way to cancel, but hey, at least you can watch this Progress Bar demolish your upgrade through the 5 minutes it takes."
I logged in again a few days later to discover that all my stockpiled food, medicine and ammo had almost been depleted, and apparently none of the A.I's. thought to recover more.

It's probably not a game for me, but I think it could have been so much better without this Game-Will-Continue-On-While-Not-Playing-And-Waste-All-Your-Efforts mechanic and some better PC controls and UI. I mean, is it too much to ask to have the camera "stick" forwards when driving a car?
