In all honesty I've gotten a little tired of the type of threads that end up just being people just listing things. Especially when an OP doesn't even seem to look back at his or her thread after the initial post. It just doesn't feel like a discussion about anything... I mean it could be I get this feeling because I'm sort of really paranoid that no one reads anything anyone posts (with the exception of quotes, and when I see someone has started to argue with someone else).

I quite like this thread. There should be a temporary ban on all titles of threads that resemble the topics mentioned above. Just to force people to actually come up with something interesting/worth talking about. +1 Paragon/Karma/Internets for you good OP and others.
Yeah you make a point there. I've seen how some topics start off pretty good, then somewhere along the lines they're not even talking about the initial subject anymore. They go from talking about L.A Noire or something then the subject changes to tacos....I'm sitting there thinking to myself, "I'm sorry did miss something here?"

#9) I know this has been done a million times before, and people have said it already, but I have THIS controversial opinion!

I don't fucking care. Nobody fucking cares. Go away.
But you don't understand. There was this game, and everyone liked it, but I didn't!

THE PEOPLE HAVE TO KNOW.

OT: This is rather petty, but it absolutely infuriates me when I see 'title says it all' in the OP. And not just because it usually heralds a silly, meaningless topic; even when it's used quite reasonably it still annoys me. I'm not sure why, I guess because I see it so often.

I have more pet peeves, but I shall limit myself to one, and give others a chance to vent.

The this country sucks and heres why ones were old before they started.

but specifically, the gamestop ones, especially when people ***** about it even though they either dont understand that business is business or bother to go and shop at one in the first place.

People asking the Escapist forums for legal-based advice, or otherwise asking about the law (which is a bad idea in of itself), but who don't bother to mention what jurisdiction they fall under.

Yeah definitely because I found out long ago that you can usually find much better deals online than you ever can in a Gamestop store. Is Gamestop a ripoff? Most definitely. That why if do buy from them, it's always brand new. Used games? I go online and find them dirt cheap for not even a quarter of the price Gamestop wants for it.

Anything about Fox News or Evolution. In both cases, it consists of everyone using the exact same points as the identical topic that was posted last week.

Fox News is biased and shouldn't be called News.
Evolution is proven and believing otherwise it stupid.

See what I did there? I summed everything that has ever been said on the Escapist about those two topics. It's getting old people.

Also, every time there's a game that popular and well received, such as Portal 2 or Minecraft, there is always some person who makes a topic titled, "I didn't like [game]" Well good for you, nobody cares.

EDIT: Anything that's basically about things the United States does differently and why it's wrong. Usually it's about health care, the metric system, or how our football is different from your football. I'm not going to defend it, but it's really overdone.

Yeah some of those who is better than who topics get beat to death constantly also. Like who are better gamers: Europeans or Americans? Who cares? Does it matter? I'm just trying to play my game and have a good time....what's wrong with that?

I'm spiritual.

This is the worst possible answer to are you religious. It shows absolutely no commitment because that might be uncomfortable to strongly identify yourself with something. If you go with the I don't like labels answer instead, that's better but no more informative on top of making you sound like a hipster.

OP: I disagree with pretty much all your points.
1. Since when did it become such a crime to share game ideas.
2. I've found several good games through recommandation threads.
3. I've yet to read a thread about this.
4. Of course.
5. Epic... It's only a word.
6. Uh, okay.
7. Fail... It's only a word.
8. There's nothing wrong with an intelligent console war.

The only threads that I don't particularly like are "the last X you killed, is now Y". It's only annoying because unique threads get ignored while these threads pop up so often and are always popular, while they offer very little in terms of interesting discussion.

how about the infamous "I HAVE RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS, HALP ME PLOX!" threads we seem to of been having lately.

I dont care if your best friends brother got a sex change and now is attracted to your goldfish.

I dont care if you are physically attracted to trees.

I. DONT. CARE.

want some real advice? write in to LoveFAQ, you know, the weekly column that deals with RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS.
I don't mind relationship threads... When they stay in the ADVICE FORUMS!!!

OT: I generally agree with the OP. Here's one to add but isn't really a forum thread: I'm tired of those cynical people who when you state something feel the urge to try and drive it into the ground with as much biased information as they can gather, then when you confront them about it they either don't respond or give the same dang speal!

Hey that's cool bro, we agree to disagree. Just don't take it to heart that's all. Last I checked opinions don't break bones. It's not that serious. You're reading a little too hard into my statement back there. I never said any of the stuff I mentioned was wrong, I simply stated that that I'm tired of hearing about it. Nothing wrong with sharing your ideas with others (i.e people who actually give damn about what you have to say like good friends and family). But telling strangers about how fast you beat Call of Duty or how it could be better, you'll find out (not everybody) don't really give a damn...plain and simple.

"I don't get X," "Why is Y good," "I think Z is really average," or any variation thereof. Listen: no one cares about your opinion. You don't need to make a thread to announce to the world your slightly unpopular opinion.

"The last -whatever- is now/is going to/will -do something moronic" (about the most general way I can do this). What do these threads accomplish really? That was rhetorical by the way-- I already know the answer. Hell, does anyone actually READ these or do they just post how Solid Snake is going to be their new roommate or something like this?

Anything about FOX. Given the shifty and less than stellar journalistic practices and integrity on the Escapist, anyone (especially contributors) bashing FOX news comes across a bit like the kettle is calling the pot black. You know, FOX and the Escapist would make a kind of cute couple...

Oh, and any thread revolving heavily around the use of statistics. Take a fucking basic probability and statistics course before you projectile-vomit through your keyboard and butcher the use of statistics, would you?

So...I think in general one of the major things that I have gotten tired of are threads that basically amount to

"THIS IS MY OPINION. YOU SHALL ALL READ MY OPINION BECAUSE IT IS IN FACT MY OPINION AND I AM ALWAYS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING. NOW AFTER YOU READ MY CLOSE ENDED POST SIMPLY SAY YAY OR NAY IN ENOUGH WORDS SO AS TO AVOID LOW CONTENT WARNINGS."

Then people start to do the most utterly time wasting thing and try to ARGUE ABOUT OPINIONS. It's just tiring to see so many threads come down to
"This is the right opinion and here's why." followed by
"No I disagree because of space aliens. I've convinced you now haven't I? :D"

Arguing about who's opinion is correct is as time wasting as arguing about the existence of God. There is often no substantial evidence to truly prove one side over the other. (Unless the opinion in question is completely bat shit crazy like saying "I think Team Persona are a bunch of twats." In that case the person with said opinion needs to immediately be put on the government's depopulation list. I joke of course. Mostly.)

So...yeah. Have a nice day.

Holy crap somebody actually gets it. I'm not in any way trying to change a person's opinion about those subjects and neither am I stating my opinion is right or wrong. I'm merely expressing how I feel about those things and nothing more. I've always wondered why people do that so much here.....my opinion is right and your opinion is wrong and here's why. It's retarded everytime I see statements like that....

Like the OP, almost any statement that uses epic. A seriously overused word. Beowulf is an epic, your sanwhich is not.
"Used games are bad/evil/going to cause the downfall of humanity" or whatever statements. I find it hard to understand why people can't just accept used games. Everything else thats re-usable has a resale market which nearly always doesn't include the original manufacturer why shouldn't games. Also the frequency of these sort of things annoys me.
Another one that annoys me is discussion on "Games as art". It's not the topic as such, just the frequency this sort of thing appears. This could be to do with the fact that I couldn't care less either way, whether games are art or not doesn't impact on my experience with games.
And I Dunno if this is just me, but statements about Mass Effect! I've got no problem with Mass Effect (though I don't particularly like it) it's just there seems to be sooooooo much discussion on it! This could be to do with the fact that when I last looked there were 3 threads about mass effect in the recent posts box thingy though xD

people who join a forum just to start a "look at me and my opinion" thread
It's not big, it's not clever, and if you were in the same room as me I'd slap you silly!

I mean okay we get it , your hyped for skyrim, but are you spending 24 hours looking for new info on skyrim to post on forums so everyone can say it's cool?

Pretty much everything said on the internet.

"Stop hating the things I like"
"Stop liking the things I hate"
"Everyone but me is wrong"
"X country/corporation/establishment sucks"
"X group of people sucks" (includes group of people "not X")
"Someone pay attention to me!" (includes "Am I the only one who...?")
"I deserve X"
"I arz teh gud spelr"
"Things nonspecific people do are annoying" (irony. heh.)

...that sort of thing. Gets real old.

Also I would like to add that the word "entitled" is getting seriously overused lately.

Had to refresh captcha 5 times before I could find something readable.
