You could've phrased that better.Besides, are you sure it's just not a case of ignorance?
I'll admit I didn't know about that section. It would be nice if they had that same drop-down menu on the actual download page or something, for more ease of access. More speed options would be nice too; No middle ground between 128 KB/s and 256 KB/s isn't very convenient for an internet connection as slow as mine.Settings > Downloads > Set bandwidth cap
Could use a third party program too.
;-)

In what way?You could've phrased that better.
Clutter up a page needlessly when the logical and most common answer is to place it in the settings menu under downloads? Come on, I can see it being missed like you did but it's not via design fault, you have to take responsibility for that one.I'll admit I didn't know about that section. No, I'd like the drop down menu to be more obvious. Pretty simple solution.GoaThief said:Matter of opinion.shrekfan246 said:'Pretty common' doesn't mean 'good'.GoaThief said:Obnoxious? Do you want Steam monitoring all the other programs' packets and bandwidth on your system just so you don't have to be inconvenienced by selecting a limit from a drop down menu? I'd say fuck that. Think of the security implications alone.
It comes across as exceedingly condescending in text form.In what way?You could've phrased that better.
Seems like a perfect fit; it's a state of being uninformed/lack of knowledge. What's the problem?
A small drop-down menu wouldn't clutter up space; There's a lot of unused space on the Steam downloads page.Clutter up a page needlessly when the logical and most common answer is to place it in the settings menu under downloads? My connection caps out around 356 KB/s. Fast enough to not massively inconvenience me with average program use such as Firefox/Skype, but slow enough that downloading anything brings everything else to a halt. How slow is your connection, precisely? Don't forget to check out those third party programs I mentioned too, if you want to micromanage like it seems you do then they're probably your best option as you must hate a whole host of programs and services on your PC that gobble it up with no way to change it... unlike Steam for example.
No it doesn't. That all lies with you. Just as some see your posts as quite bold and confrontational, which I don't take them as such incidentally. It comes across as exceedingly condescending in text form.
Sounds similar to my previous one. Try Net Limiter [http://www.netlimiter.com/] or something along those lines, I used it for quite a while and it worked wonders. My connection caps out around 356 KB/s. It's a bit of a 50/50 thing. The person reading takes a sentence any way they choose, yes, but it's affected by the post as well. And since tone generally isn't conveyed very well through the internet...GoaThief said:No it doesn't. That all lies with you.It comes across as exceedingly condescending in text form.
Yeah, my apologies, I just woke up an hour ago and I've been in a pretty foul mood lately because of one of my friends.Just as some see your posts as quite bold and confrontational, which I don't take them as such incidentally.
I'll look into that. And I appreciate you pointing out the download setting in Steam.Sounds similar to my previous one. Try Net Limiter [http://www.netlimiter.com/] or something along those lines, I used it for quite a while and it worked wonders.
