So, I've recently gotten into Steam (not fast enough for free Portal, sadly) and have been browsing the store and downloading demos. Fellow escapists, could you recomend some good games that are available on Steam?

Note: I've already downloaded:
Secrets of Monkey Island*
Knights of the Old Republic*
Braid
Torchlight
Stubbs the Zombie
Audio Surfer
Rocket Knight
Plants vs Zombies

I'll try pretty much anything, but I love platformers and RPGs
*Full game. The rest are demos

If you like platformers get Trine, physics based, fantasy platforming goodness. But best in multipayer

For RPG's you could try Dragon Age, it's by the same people that did KOTOR.

World Of Goo if you like puzzle games.
And Yet It Moves if you want to blow your mind with puzzle games.
Samorost2 if you like point-and-click puzzle games.
Psychonauts if you like platformers about psychic powers.
Battle Grounds 2 if you like FPS based on the American Civil War (plus it's free, and I play it a ton, woo!)

And yes, TF2, CSS, HL2, what people have said already.

Have a look at Killing Floor, Beat Hazard, L4d2, L4d1, Tf2, Portal, Half-life 2, Counter-strike source, Audiosurf.......Anyways, there are tons of games to choose from, so just have a look, see if you like anything, but I highly recomend Killing Floor and L4d( one and two)

Yeah deffo get TF2 I've heard that's pretty awesome :)

You thought it was better, really? I have Killing Floor and I found it a bit... slower (not just the zombies, the gameplay itself) than Left 4 Dead. I kinda like the humour in L4D :)

In the grand tradition of completely failing to read the OP in a recommendation thread I recommend Portal. You should get Portal. Why are you not playing Portal?

I recommend Super Laser Racer, Windosill, Machinarium and Psychocauts.

Team Fortress 2. I can't wait for it to come out on mac because i miss playing it. Fingers crossed it comes out today
Civilization 4. I'm having to avoid playing this at the moment because it's addictive and i need to revise.

Also World of Goo.

Killing Floor. A game has never had such beautiful reload animations. I MEAN THOSE ARE SOME DAMN HOT RELOAD ANIMATIONS.

And popping 5 heads off of zombies in slow motion with a pistol? Dude. The game is amazing.
