Ohkay. This is why it is bad to start something in the wee hours and crash unprepared for the guaranteed follow up. Certainly an error in judgement on my part and I do apologize.
So many wildly incorrect assumptions and dismissals. Perhaps one of the worst is my own. I would think that by virtue of how my statements are clearly expressing concerns not for myself but for ALL, that people would have enough sense that if they are going to make assumptions, that they would not be in direct conflict with the statements. How I can write a message focused on the impacts on all customers and the entire industry, and have it so mangled into assumptions of being internally motivated is both awe inducing and dumbfounding, but I digress.
It is NOT a tech issue, its a philosophical one.
It is not ignorance, insignificance or misplaced blame .
It is not jumping to conclusions, insane or irrational.
What has to be perhaps the saddest part of this is to be expected on such a wide spectrum defend a position as if it were completely preposterous, uncommon, or even original with little or no more justification than ".... but... but... I LIKE Steam!" Completely intolerant to the notion due to not liking what it means if true.
I would like consideration of The message of "What is popular is not always right and what is right is not always popular." which goes a long way in explaining why " he just doesn't get very many people following him on it" yet being "pretty good at what he does,"

While not astounding, my internet connection does not adversely effect my experience.

Win 7-64 / 16gb DDR3/2gb G 650 + 1gb PHYSX dedicated ION/Tri monitor config/ I5 processor/bi yearly hardware upgrades as beneficial and yearly reformatting to clear out incompatibilities and errors, and that is just one of 5 different computers I use for varying levels of gaming. All that before the mothballed last snapshot stored on a 500gb external drive with the with its fraction of total steam library left to die in perpetual offline mode. Moreover I never had any problem or complaint with the mechanics of how the steam client works.
My install of steam was always up to date till the point they went hostile and I refused to comply with their hostility. The only thing that resulted in my version of steam being no longer up to date was valve requiring me to agree to something I could not, would not, and should not be asked to agree to in order to update the software. Valves choice, not mine.
It is not ignorance, insignificance or misplaced blame .
My position is every bit applicable to Sony, EA, MS, Nintendo, Activision, SE or anyone who would engage in such behavior. If it seems like I am fixated on steam for this, that is simply perception caused by basically being one away team fan trying to be heard in a packed stadium. The sheer number and magnitude of obliviousness, irrationality and unmerited public adoration lumped on valve by its supporters basically requires one to scream to have any hope of being heard.
Just because they do not congregate en mass in a clearly rabidly Pro-Valve forum does not make those segments not exist or insignificant to the point of irrelevance. This is evidenced by the number of resell merchants enjoying the benefits of financial support originating at opposition to these kinds of actions. So much so that new ones looking to cash in are springing up everywhere to fill the demand.
If an individual reconciles the pro/cons and does not care about the negative effects of something it does not mean those negatives vanish or that the consequences of those choices somehow end at the choice of that individual. No man is an island unto themselves. It when the consequences of the actions of a nose led super majority are forced on and paid for by and at the expense of those in a micro minority who have never stopped resisting it. Freedom of choice is a vital thing. However It is no longer freedom when the the expression of freedom of one is allowed to infringe on the liberty of others.
False. I am an artist. I have respect for the artists. Artists and consumers are fighting the same war on separate fronts against the same enemy. Distributors are little more than toll trolls collecting money from everyone, yet offering no service but to slow down momentum and detour progress. Valve are not the artists. They create nothing. They are the distribution. What hurts artists in this equation are the distributors who manipulate the rules of the game to increase their personal benefit. Any pain caused the artist by the consumers is as a drop of blood compared to the wrath bestowed upon the artist by their distribution.
Also I, unlike many others fully understand the difference between ownership. An artists right to own and control the original state, direction and development of their product needs to be protected every bit as much as the need of the consumer to be protected from those who are trying to eliminate the ability to "own" copies of media specifically created for mass market consumption. There is no conflict in upholding both connotations of the word ownership. We have ample examples where consumers and artists are properly serviced well and flourishing without the use of such distributors.
