Because I've heard so many bad things about Steam, I've never really trusted their shiny store with all the games you want at ridiculously cheap prices. I've recently heard of their big summer sales and I went to check it out. Their price tags looked amazing indeed. The THQ-pack in particular. Sadly, I already own Dawn of War II on Steam (but bought via retail) and I'd be a fool if I bought the same game twice. What happens if I buy the THQ pack? Do I get DoWII twice? Or would I get a price reduction?

Thanks

You have the retail version, so you'll basically have 2 copies, you wont get a discount off that price just cause you already have the game.

I thought if you already a game that was within a pack you could gift off that game. At least I think that's what my friend did when he gifted me Half Life 2.

i dont belive you can gift games if you buy it in a pack.... but tbh if you wanna buy the thq pack and you only have one game its still an amazing deal i have 3 or 4 of the games in the pack and im still gonna get it

Pretty much what that means is that you get to buy hax for one copy and get banned after awhile (for the lulz), or you be some awesome friend and give someone the key code

Anyway, yes, their summer sale prices are awesome. See the Overlord one? Its cheaper to get the 3 in a pack than getting Overlord 2 which is one of the 3 games. Its like "HERE TAKE THESE 3 OR YOU PAY MORE!"

Yeah I think you can gift off individual games in the pack. A friend of mine bought the orange box but gifted Half-life:2 and episode 1 to me. Steam has a kind of anti-competition thing going on with steam cloud and the whole "if you buy it on steam you can only get the expansions and such from steam". That kind of practice is looking to be the start of a trend worth worrying about.

You can send the send copy as a gift to a friend on Steam.

Oh, and that pack is TWENTY-SIX POUNDS down from TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE POUNDS, with ~12 games, and you're reluctant to pay because you already have one?!

Some people are insane...

That's not a lecture, that's just the advice that you should buy it as soon as possible.

I already had one of the Sam & Max games when I bought the TellTale Pack, nothing happens, you don't get a second copy and you don't get a discount

From the Steam support page:

"EXTRA COPIES ARE NOT GIVEN IN MOST CASES." [Source] [https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4502-TPJL-2656]

No, you cannot gift the game you already have. That offer was only on the Orange Box and the L4D & L4D2 four-packs. Any other pack you just don't get that game twice. Unless you only have it retail, in which case you would then have it tied to a Steam account, with Steam community features and suchlike.
