I know Steam has a myriad of problems right now, ie Greenlight etc. but I think they need to revamp their recommendation system. I wish they wouldn't recommend me things based on what I LOOKED at. Also because I played one or two of those indi JRPGs they have I'm getting recommendations for things like that creepy bird dating game thing. Is anyone else annoyed by this?

What I'd like to see is some form of filtering/blacklisting by tags. For example, I dislike anime games and JRPGs, so why can't I filter them out of my future recommendations?

I was just noticing this yesterday. Steam was recommending me Duke Nukem Forever and The Slaughtering Grounds... just because I glanced at them. I don't think I've ever been enticed by a game they've recommended me. They really should base it off games in your wishlist or library, not games I've clicked to check out the page on.

I think the biggest change I'd like is for Steam to stop recommending me, or at least listing on the front page, games I already own. I've already bought Endless Space, you don't need to sell me anymore on it, Steam. I also wish the recommendations would be based more on what I own and what are on my wishlist, so that the already provided examples might stop happening.

I've never saw Steam recommend me a game I own. Unless you mean the top part of the page with the current deals and the carousel. I don't think it's fair to hide the deals. As for the carousel, you can already customise that

Steam seems to be getting a good idea of what I want. Outside of new releases most of the things I see tend to be right up my alley.

Hell, my queue is pretty much majority things I end up adding to my wishlist these days.

I've had that problem, exactly. Steam still occasionally recommends that I buy Painkiller: black and then when I click on it the store page says "you own this, install to play". They also do it if you own a better version of a game, Steam keeps telling me to buy dragon age: origin when I have the GOTY edition. Why would I ever buy the edition with less shit in it? XD

OT: I want to be able to block certain tags. Adventure games, Sports games and strategy games, I hate them. To preempt people that are gonna say "but what if something you'd like pops up with that tag": then I either wouldn't buy it or I'd see it was cool on youtube and check it out on steam. As is right now, every time something pops up on my feed that I don't recognize, I literally click it, look at tags and if it has any of them I click the "Not interested" button so that it goes away forever.

It's actually an issue I've had more with the recommendations then the carousel. Endless Space, my listed example, has been the biggest offender in this for me, so I don't know if it might just be an issue with their page, but I know I've seen a couple others come up before.

I also get it a lot with the four tabs at the bottom of the screen (Top Sellers, Upcoming Releases, New Releases, Specials), along with the Curator recommendations, even though I've deselected the Games in My Inventory option for it.

I just am glad that it (for me anyway) is better than the NETFLIX recommendation system. Steam will every once in a while show me something I have NO interest in. On the other hand NF's recommendation asked me specifically "How often do you watch: Stand-Up Comedy? Often, Sometimes, Never?" So why is it that even though I very clearly have "NEVER" checked off, I'm "recommended" every single stand-up comedy special they stream. THE VERY SECOND they become available. That's way worse than Steam ever treated me.

That's ok, netflix does worse things. For example, I watched a super happy anime show(can't remember the name) so it recommended "Grave of the Fireflies". Everyone that has seen that movie sees the problem, to everyone else I highly recommend the super fun and non-depression starting smash hit "Grave of the Fireflies". /troll

Then there's the things that it recommends that makes no sense, like "because you watched Young Justice" and the first thing on the list is Jerry Maguire...... what!?
