I just went out and bought a legit copy of skyrim from ebgames australia (they released early due to harvey norman started selling their copies early), went to install it and wouldn't you know it, steam stops me because they havent released it online.

now i dont mind steam or GFWL, because they havent ever been intrusive to ME before, but this is ridiculous. I have the case in my hand as we speak, the smell of the map is...odd because its really strong, my point is that i cant even contact steam to tell them that its so bad to do this to people with the disc in the drive. not to mention had i got it for my 360, i wouldn't have an issue.

so now, i can sit here for 7 hours, twiddling my thumbs until its unlocked. anyway, anyone else ever get screwed over like this?

They made it so you need steam to unlock the game, for everyone who bought a physical copy.

oh darn, you have to wait 7 hours. Man, that's not getting "screwed over", that's having to experience a "minor inconvenience for 7 hours".

I have no idea if this would work or not, but maybe you could try uninstalling steam before installing the game? there's gotta be some kind of backup plan for anyone without the service right? probably a dumb idea but its what i would do.

I would be ok with it, if Steam let me actually install the game before midnight -_-

But now I have to wait till midnight, then install the game, then wait for it to patch... By which time the sun will likely be up, knowing the DL speeds of day one patches =/

I can totally understand the frustration, but damnit, it's hard to have any sympathy for you since you did get the game early. If other Steam users can't get it early, how would it look to others seeing you and other players playing a game before it's officially released. I'm certain there would be legal repercussions for Steam if they did.

So you have to wait until the same time as everyone else who didn't get an early release copy?
How is this screwing you over again, don't complain unless this keeps you from playing the legitimately purchased game after it has been legitimately released. I'm in nearly the same situation as you since I pre-ordered the game on steam, so I have legitimately purchased it, but cannot play it until it is released, you have the advantage of a physical box and a map to admire for the next ~24 hours.

no, it would be minor inconvenience except i just walked across town and back in bloody hot weather (literally, people are passing out from heat exhaustion) to pick up a game which is $2 cheaper than the online version, which i could've preloaded.

not to mention i wont have the opportunity to play till late tomorrow/early next day now and the aust copy is $89.

It's not Steam's fault your local retailer wants to get sued by releasing early. Man up and wait for it to unlock like everyone else.

I feel your pain, I am in the same position. Only a couple of nights ago I got screwed over my Steam's MW3 release as well and had to wait 12 hours after the rest of Aus started playing to launch the game.

Steam fails.

Be careful of insulting Steam around here. There are a lot of Valve fanboys on the Escapist and they might just go into rage mode and start screaming expletives at you.

I don't see why people are hating STEAM over their lack of patience. It's just a game, you can wait a little longer, it's not going anywhere. I have to wait a month and a week for my Arkham City to unlock, and you don't see me damning STEAM for it.

*stares out at the Nordic winter climate*

... You won't be getting any more sympathy for that argument. ;)

What does steam have to do with it? The publisher chose a time to release the game and use steam as a tool to make certain that the game can't be leaked early. If you want to whine to anyone whine to the publisher. Steam just does what the publishers asks.

I say good for them. Bethesda/Steam has every right to set a release date for their product, and it's a dick move for any retailer to start selling before the appropriate time.

EB Games won't get sued. Harvey Norman was the store that broke release date. They could get sued, but if one store does, then due to fair trade stuff other stores can to avoid getting screwed over by the store that released early and thus got the customers.

You haven't been screwed over. They said that the game would be available on 11/11/11, and they're sticking to it.

Not getting something early is not "getting screwed over", and trying to say that it is means that you should re-examine your expectations and stop being so entitled.
