Well it is about time. Valve has finally made Steam prepaid cards.

Steam cards, in addition to being a gift certificate of sorts, are also a way for kids to buy up games without using Mom or Dad's credit card. When first reported, the arrangement was said to be "kind of a sensitive issue" between Valve and GameStop, the leading brands in digital distribution and physical retail sales in North America, respectively.

I probably wouldn't have put a numerical value on the cards, because it seems to me like a reloadable card would work better, but maybe that's just me. On Steam, game prices come in much, much greater varieties than $20 and $50, and a reloadable card would just be more convenient.

Hurray!

I still haven't gotten around connecting my card to my Steam account. I don't know why, I just don't feel comfortable with that. It's nice that they're giving me an alternative.

Might even by myself a hat one day.

In almost all countries around the world, you can get a debit card from the kind of age you start gaming. This should be advertised more.
