I love Steam a lot. I'm the kind of guy who likes physically owning the product though (also, I have a SHIT download speed) so I prefer to have the discs. But still, Steam is the bomb.
Well, I must admit I never really pay attention when installing games, because, you know, I want to actually play the game, so I might have skipped the part where I was given the option to install it from the disks or download it off of Steam. Still makes me wonder why downloading it off of Steam was the default choice though...ThrobbingEgo said:

You don't actually have to download the games from online you know, it's just that a lot of the gems on Steam are only available in digital download form.scumofsociety said:

They have cheap deals, yes, but that's just a couple of products (at best) each time. Their prices are expensive, especially here in the EU, because their dollar to euro ratio is a retarted 1:1. That IS kinda ridiculous. The Orange Box is still, and will always be, an amazing deal though.SimuLord said:

The pricing is good and the unlimited installs on unlimited computers is better than any disc based DRM so far, even if Steam is essentially DRM. The community system works well enough and the auto updates are very helpful.
But it's by no means perfect, the option to back up games to a DVD(s) would be nice, similarly if your account gets hacked Valve are less than helpful. If it gets hacked multiple times they just delete it, games, stats and all, I suppose the argument is you should have been more careful with your login details but it's still a *****.
Having said that, compare it to EA's service, where you pay for a game just for it all to tell you you can't have it, then have EA support tell you to fuck off because you don't have a disc or CD key to quote. Compared to that it's the nuts.
