Isn't Thief a steampunk game series?

Only one that I ever played and enjoyed was Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, it's a few years old but it still a fun game, you can probably find it on Amazon.
GOG.com, Why buy it from amazon when you can buy and install in an instant. This is where I bought it.
I like having the disc... does that mean there's something wrong with me?
Nah I don't think so, having the physical game means you can put it on display :D

Remnants of Skystone describes itself as a steampunk game, it's free to play too but isn't particularly amazing. You can get a few hours of play out of it but most of the missions involve collecting random items or clearing areas of monsters to unlock a new area to clear of monsters. Rinse and repeat. As a work-avoider it's probably worth trying out though.

Fable 2 to a certain degree I suppose, but that is kind of pushing it.

Aside from Bioshock there's nothing I can think of that comes close, I'm eagerly awaiting Binfinite though (Bioshock: Infinite, yes, no?).
No. Just no.

Arcanum was great, played it over and over. Variety of different character choices and a divergent plot path made for fair replayability despite how badly it's aged. Rise of Legends was also superlative, the RTS action being fun as well as the Risk Board campaign map. A lot of Steampunk in games seems to be Tech Vs Magic. I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I like it. As far as MMORPGs are concerned, there is a little Korean number called Neosteam. Atlus has the rights to it in the western world, it's free and fairly engrossing (For a MMORPG anyway.) though I tired of it after a month of fairly intense grinding.

A really awesome looking game called Edge of Twighlight was coming out, developed by the Australian studio Fuzzyeyes, though it seems it vaporwared before we got what seemed to be a post apocalyptic Steampunk 3rd person adventure. The main character had a blunderbuss as big as his torso with an axe blade underneath. I am dismayed.

Fear not, however. Studio Whitemoondreams has got ahold of the Warmachine license and is producing some sort of game based around Privateer Press' award winning tabletop miniatures property as we speak. The basic premise is a fantasy world where wars are waged by giant steam powered robots who beat the hell out of each other, controlled by battlemages called Warcasters who use steampunk technology mixed with magic to power all kinds of weapons and war engines. (As a player of the miniatures game, I am cautiously optimistic.)

Previously, the now defunct Headfirst games had the Warmachine license and were producing an RPG set in the Warmachine world, but it vaporwared with Headfirst's collapse. They also had another Steampunk license, and were making a game set in the Deadlands universe, an alternate history wild west filled with supernatural horror and weird science.

Never played them, but the Iron Grip series of mods and conversions seem to be WWII style combat only with Steampunk armour, weapons and vehicles. The concept art they got done was incredibly good, but I heard the actual mods were mediocre. They are doing some king of Beta or something for a game at the moment. I should probably look into that.

Well, there you are. I was watching ZP and saw Steampunk in the sidebar so I thought I should sign up, drop in and talk a bunch. I had to restrain myself when I heard someone mention Bioshock, but I'm calm again now.

I really hate how they add punk on to these genres. There is nothing punk at all in any "steampunk" game, since it takes place in the Victorian era when there were no punks at all.

Steambot chronicles/thread.

You must buy this game. Its the law.

Everything about this game is superb except for the controls. But you get used to them after the first "Town". Seriously, go buy it.

Its about mech suit battles but they are steampunk, the world is steampunk, and the game is really charming. A ton of stuff to do, definitely check it out.

Can someone explain the significance of adding -punk to a word to define a genre? I've been hearing terms like cyberpunk and steampunk all my life without really understanding why they're called that, or at least how the term punk comes into play.
Basically it indicates that its got a Dystopian feel to it, think Bladerunnder for Cyberpunk. True Steampunk is actually high tech things from steam age technology forming the background to a dark story. However these days its become a generalised term for any advanced tech from steam age technology, although I maintain a lot of what is called Steampunk is just gearpunk.

Gearpunk being to steampunk what Twighlight is to Dracula.
Although to be fair, there's usually a lot of cross-over between steampunk and gearpunk (assuming that gearpunk = clockpunk)

OT: hmm, the first thing that comes to mind in Bioshock infinity (horror + good story telling + atmospheric world + steampunk + possible philisophical references = F*CK YEAH!)

I completely forgot about Edge of Twilight, I was really looking forward to that game, thinking it was going to be proof of what the Australian game industry could achieve, oh well.

Also welcome to the forums, I hope you enjoy your stay, remember to avoid the basement.

Arcanum. great game and dare I say it. You're freaking right! You've discovered what is possibly the only steampunk game in existence.
Which is kind of sad considering the actual size of the Steampunk community.
Ahh, Arcanum... The traits, the perks, the streaking through the streets of Tarant... And where else can you see an Elf mage-blood blow his own face off with a flintlock pistol just by touching it?

I also have the urge to nominate Anachronox, but I have a feeling it treads more towards Cyberpunk lines.

Also, some of the earlier Final Fantasies (as well as XII) feature much machinery that's built around... well, chicanery. Powered by 'crystals' and featuring early firearms and such... Oh, and magic. Would that count?

Steampunk is fairly good in movies too. Two notable steampunk films are Brazil and The City of Lost Children.

Skies of Arcadia is steampunk. Get it, and if you don't have a gamecube or Wii, get one of those first, even if only for this game (and Tales of Symphonia 1&2). If a game could have my babies, it would be that one. Sky pirates, an amazingly huge free-roaming world, an engrossing plot, sky ship battles, everything about it is just amazing.

As far as I know, there aren't any proper steampunk games released. Possibly a little indy game on Steam called Guns of Icarus, but even that's probably more closer to Bioshock Infinite's style.
Failing that, I don't think there really are any.
I can give you lots of cyberpunk games though, if you'd like?
Cyberpunk games you say? I'm intrigued... Got anything that's not Deus Ex?

If you are positivly desperate and don't mind being the ridicule of all your friends you can try Second Life. There are several large continenets dedicated to steampunk. You can visit them, live there and never ever ever visit the "mainland"

However Second Life overall is lame and filled with stupidity so only use it if you tire of Arcanum, Steambot Chronicles, Final Fantasy 6, 7 and 9, Sakura Tasien, and Rise of Legends

Ok i too have to mention the incredebly great Arcanum, at least worth 4 different replays to experience at least 90% of the content.

plus:
Iron Grip: Warlord
