Dark Cloud 2 / Dark Chronicle.

It's very steampunk, you have a robot you can pilot in dungeons.

Echo Bazaar [http://echobazaar.failbettergames.com/] is Victorian, but not particularly punk and without the emphasis on improbable tech. Still a fun diversion for its genre.

There's a tabletop miniatures wargame out there called Warmachine which is basically about wizards controlling giant steam-punk robots to beat the shit out of each-other. It's not a video game, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Thief (2, mainly) and Arcanum are the only steampunk games that I can think of, and both are excellent. Also, I heard (somewhere on the internet, I forget where) the term 'steampulp' being used as a better name for steampunk, and I agree. Steampunk is very pulp adventure.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends is my absolute favorite steampunk game to date. It also happens to be one of my favorite RTS games of all time! Seriously, how can you get more steampunk than this?!

Yeah, I mentioned Warmachine. And a video game based on it is currently in production by a company called Whitemoondreams.

what about the crazy machines game on Steam? a bit of a stretch perhaps, and definitely more of a Rube Goldberg device kinda thing, but it's got a Victorian Kinda look to it. Reminds me of another similar game i played as kid called Leonardo's Workshop or something. i dunno, i see brass and odd objects coming together for a unique pupose i think "steampunk"

btw, as a(n old) punk rocker, i've always felt a little raped by the throwing around of the word "punk" but i guess i can dig the dystopian resident connotation. like the residents of Jonny Mnemonic being cyberpunk and whatnot.

Fable 2 to a certain degree I suppose, but that is kind of pushing it.

Aside from Bioshock there's nothing I can think of that comes close, I'm eagerly awaiting Binfinite though (Bioshock: Infinite, yes, no?).
No. Just no.
Damn, I went one week without food, sleep or toilet breaks coming up with that name, just because I didn't want to say Bioshock: Infinite everytime I wanted to talk about Bioshock: Infinite because I can guarantee for the next few months I'll be talking about Bioshock: Infi-ARGH!

Edit: Definitely Jade Empire.

I'd forgotten about Jade Empire! The steampunk flyers were awesome. I was in an action RPG, then suddenly I'm piloting a steam powered asian ornithopter in a schmup minigame.

I would highly suggest picking it up. It's old enough not to be priced between $19.99, and there's a chance you could even find it in a $9.99 bargain bin somewhere. Amazon is a good bet too.

It's a GREAT game, and it was kind of a stealth hit. The reviewers everywhere said, "Ok, it's a good enough game," but many of the actualy players feel it never got the attention or reviews that it should have.

Oh, and the multiplayer is EPIC if you can get with a decent person. I've had games that have laster for upwards of 5 hours!

Steampunk + Magic/dragons + ancient alien technology = ZOMGAWESOME!

I actually got lucky and found a copy in the low price pyramid at the store this morning for 10 EUR :) did the first 3 lvls of the campaign and already love it.

Oh I would love to see a good Van Helsing game come to PC PS3, its such a cool world and so poorly used by Hollywood - same with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.. could do soo much cool shit in those settings!

Awesome! It's FAR better than nay of the critics gave it credit for. I would suggest patching it up with the in-game patching utility. The patches fix a lot of issues that the original version had, and one of the patches adds some awesome units and abilities.

You should also know that the game is famous for having some of the most overpowered hero units known to the RTS genre. Seriously, some of them are totally broken! Just take the Doge for instance... If you manage to summon him in a skirmish or MP game (fully patched of course), you will see what I mean.
