This question is for people in the USA only. If you're not currently residing in the USA, or if you are not from the USA, then leave.
Now.
Go.
Go!
GO!
Go, go now!
LEAVE!

Now then:
I've been thinking. About Stephen Fry.

Now, chances are that if you ARE English, not only did you not follow my directions, but you probably just jizzed your pants at the mention of his name. And, chances are that if you are from the US, you have no idea who the fuck Stephen Fry is.

For those of you who don't know, Stephen Fry is a Shakespearian actor who did some cool things... Or something. I don't really know. But the point is, that he's a national treasure. EVERYONE in England loves him. EVERYONE.

Just imagine this: Yahtzee, a pessimistic and cynical asshole, and all around misanthrope actually loves this guy. Seriously, Yahtzee only follows 20 people on twitter, and Stephen Fry is one of them.

So this got me to thinking; If Stephen fry is England's national treasure, than who the hell is the USA's?

Here are the two qualifications:
A.) It has to be a household name (For example, as nerds we all know who Nathan Fillian is, but chances are your next door neighbor doesn't.)

And B.) This person must reach a general consensus of being held in high regard (He's got to be a guy that everyone LIKES. As much as I like James Hetfield, chances are that about half of you don't, and that means he doesn't qualify for national treasure status. Remember, EVERYONE needs to like this person.)

So help me out Escapist, I need a decision!
Cast your votes!

My vote goes to Morgan Freeman!

[HEADING=1]Aaaaand we have a winner![/HEADING]

You're forgetting the obvious choice. It starts with an S and ends with an ouplex.

Hmm.

Mister Rogers maybe?

Though he wasn't really an actor.

I am an American and I know who Steven Fry is. He hosts a gameshow-thingy right? Funny dude ;) But, I have a weak spot for a certain kind of British humo(u)r.

edit:
This :http://xkcd.com/767/

and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXEuEUQIP3Q

pretty much everything you need to know about the dude. Read the mouse over text on the XKCD strip as well.

edit2: QI is what I was referring to, I've seen a few episodes and they were hysterical. Sadly I can't seem to find a solid collection of them anywhere..

No one.

No one born in the US can even compare to Stephen Fry.
Is Stephen Fry the guy who played Gordon Gordon the psychologist on Bones a few seasons ago? If that's him then I'm sorry America, you have no-one who can cmpare. Heck, Australia doesn't even have anyone like that(that's right, I'm not an American and I apologise, but when someone tells me to go away I am urged almost helplessly to take part).

You know what's funny? That picture of Stephen Colbert is my fucking desktop background, and I didn't even think of him.

You're right. You win.

Yeah, I know who Stephen Fry is, and I believe that Fred Rogers is his stateside equvilent. He wasn't the nicest man in America; he was the nicest man on the planet. There's an urban legend about him that says he stopped a bank robbery by telling the robbers he was very dissapointed in them, and then he convinced them to turn themselves over for community service. If you know who Fred Rogers is (and if you have a soul or moral compass, you do), you can see why that story may very well be true.

Runner-up is Stephen Colbert, for numerous milestones in trolling.

I was gonna say Chuck Norris but that would be too easy. Oh well Texas Ranger it is. Mr.Rogers and Colbert were already taken.

Because even other countries know his name.

"Legend has it he walks among us, even now.
A dreamer, alone in a world between dreams and reality.
Was he always a fighter?
Was he always a hero?
What do we make of?
The young Chuck Norris?"

Why not??

It's amazing! It's got all the Superbowl predictions for the next 50 years. The Human Survivors barely lose against the Sector B Mutants!
