I tried Shogun 2 on easy one time.

It lasted about 20 minutes and I lost the tutorial mission with one of the "victory guaranteed" clans.

Other than that, I guess I was surprised at how much time I spent in DOTA, normally being a single-player mainly action/RPG-esque kinda dude. It's pretty fun.
Oh, and I tried Katawa Shojou. First VN other than shitty flash games, it was written pretty well but nothing too special.

Your joke sucks. Looks more like passive aggressive flamebait to me. Anyway, to answer your question, I did actually enjoy Company of Heroes, but most I have a hard time getting into. Also when I say RPG that's a pretty large scope, same with shooters. I'll always try a large variety.
The bait would have been better disguised if it was meant to be taken seriously ;). Can't expect people to fall into obvious traps.

CoH is a good title to start with, generally very forgiving with a relatively slow pace for an RTS and the retreat mechanic sparing many units from annihilation. I tend to prefer things that are a bit 4X-ish but also have some form of tactical manipulation.

I think something like Natural Selection 2 would be up your alley. It's got one part that is definitely an FPS(though less shooting and more biting for the aliens) but the other aspect is a commanders seat that goes heavy on the RTS elements, though your orders can be more suggestions than concrete commands. That can be very frustrating at times. In the least, if you don't like the RTS part, you can just fight it out as a normal soldier and have your fun there. Win-win situation. It is online multiplayer only as far as I know, but I don't know if that's a problem for you.

Like others have mentioned already Katawa Shoujo. Didn't really know what to expect going in and was pleasantly surprised. Now it's one of my all time favorites.

I did this when I gave Modern Warfare 1 a try since it was at our house for a night.
After beating the campaign, I was very pleasantly surprised.
That said, didn't and couldn't touch the multiplayer.

Sorry, I'm not great at reading tone. Especially here on the Escapist.
If I sounded a bit like a jerk, my apologies.

I do like the space genre ones, but I tend to lose my patience for 'em after a bit. Now I'm thinking of Halo Wars for some reason. Hmm. The gameplay you described of Natural Selection actually reminds me of Nuclear Dawn. Which was good fun. I'll check it out. Thanks!
