I'm Canadian.

No, we do not live in a frozen wasteland for the most part and there is no 10 foot tall perfectly cut wall of ice cutting off right at the US boarder.

No, hockey is not the be-all-end-all, although it does have a high degree of popularity. I personally despise most sports and the absurd amount of money wasted on them, hockey included.

No, we do not put "eh?" at the end of our sentences any more than most people put "huh?" at the end of theirs. I live in Atlantic Canada, where that sort of thing is MORE common and it's still very rare. Newfoundland might have a higher proportion though, not sure.

There's also the stereotype that Canadian's tend to be polite. I don't have much to compare to beyond the media, which isn't exactly ideal for getting the full picture on people, but I can tell you that we certainly try to be polite and unassuming in order to lure the world into a false sense of security before we deploy the Canuuk-Bot 9001, a city-sized tank armed to the teeth with Experimental MIRV cannons and 300 foot thick armor!

Well I live in Washington and I remember my math teacher saying that while he was in Cali and was talking with some people they asked where he was from, he said "Washington" and they thought we had polar beads here and that it rained everyday. The rain part is true though and if it's not raining it's cloudy out.
are there alot of mormons around?
I don't know about the northern or eastern (but who really cares about the eastern part anyway?) parts of Washington, but down here in the Southwestern part there are a lot. I think about a quarter of my graduating class was Mormon.

North Yorkshire (countryside area), England.

The general Stereotype is that we're short tempered, gruff, half-pint glasses don't exist here, and we beat up the Welsh slightly more than we do each other. It's somewhat true, but not to the extent that it's made out to be. No, we are not technologically challenged (as of 2001!!!) and our women aren't obese almost-as-manly-as-the-men types.

The other thing is that every region in (at least) Northern England thinks that every other region in Northern England is a bunch of inbred tossers. That's slanderous, too! [small]bloody six fingered Lancashire pricks...[/small]

Austin, Texas. I honestly don't know that many citywide stereotypes, no one that doesn't live nearby would know them, anyways. Here are the statewide ones, though;
Everyone is a cowboy amid a big wild west: Absolutely false. I live in a huge city, and I can assure you that I've never even ridden a horse, even though my family always jokes about it, and my sister, when she gets into Troy to go to RPI, will be wearing a cowboy hat and might actually attempt a stereotypical Texan accent, another MAINLY false.
I can't name any other widely known stereotypes, but those you will probably have heard about, especially if you live in the northern states.

germany, when i moved to the US i was asked if i was a nazi and that has continued all my life most recently last week when i was asked why my countrymen hated jews. Ignorance runs thick through humanity, and no its obviously not true, germany condems nazis like no other country.
I believe you. Didn't you guys just prosecute a 90 year old man?

OT: I live in Missouri and other than "Do you live on a farm?" I don't have to many other stereotypes in my state. My grandpa owned a farm out in the middle of nowhere. We're all whitebread suburban folk mostly.

Vermont is full of pot smoking, liberal hippies.

..........>_>; it's true.

However, we do have quite a few centrists and righties. We're basically a left-leaning state that feels perfectly justified in having pants loads of guns. We love nature, but we've got fighter jets.

Oh, and there's a small group of us that wanna secede.

Short and to the point:

I'm from England and I'm also a walking English stereotype.

Cynical, sarcastic and very silly all at the same time? yep.
Bad teeth? yep.
Tea? yep.
Queue politely for anything? yep.
Live near a load of roundabouts? yep.
Hate the French? yep.
Speak with a posh accent while saying things like "bugger"? yep.

I personally view Monty Python just as business as usual.

Oh, many

Stereotypes about my town are the following

We talk like "Pahk the cah in the Hahvid Yahd"
We're all hipsters who crowd Starbucks all day
We're all ravenous sports fans
We're all hopelessly addicted to marijuana
We're all very aggressive drivers

I don't know many stereotypes about my city (Canberra, Australia)in particular, apart from it being generally shit, which I guess is sorta true. Also the weather is ridiculous. In winter it can sometimes never get above freezing all day, but in summer it can get up to 40 degrees Celsius.

In terms of Australian stereotypes in general, for the most part we're not too bad. Not everyone looks and acts like Saxton Hale. Also I'm not sure about racism, which may or may not be a problem, I'm not aware of it though. Most of my friends and I are pretty much post-race.

however we don't hate the english(...much.) we don't say 'faith and begorrah!' and we don't say 'top o' the mornin!' ( however, we do say howya and 'what's the craic!').

what are the other stereotypes? they're probably true, but ye can run it past me anyway.

New York. Everyone always assumes I'm from the city, when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Seriously, the nearest anything is 15 miles away, and that's a McDonalds/Gas station combo. The school is in a town of 400 people, which doubles when it's in session. Also, there's a large farm near the school, and we can smell it on warm summer days.

We don't have sidewalks or road paint, and people ride horses on the road for short trips, it's not unheard of (but still somewhat rare) for people to ride horses to McDonalds.

Big families - yeah that was true 20 or 30 years ago but the average family these days is small.Very few people have more than 2-3 kids these days

Heavy drinkers - I'll give you this one.Irish people do like to drink although this notion that we're a nation of drunks is complete bollocks

A lot of us are ginger - Nope.Gingers are a minority and are dying out apparently

Hating the English - You're right. Most of us don't mind the English these days unless we're playing them at some sport. Then we all become rabid nationalists

The whole "faith and begorrah" and "top o the mornin" thing - yeah complete bollocks

Hmm what else is there

Devout god-fearing Catholics - Nope.Church attendances have fallen massively in the last 15-20 years. We're much more secular these days

Majority rural population - Probably not.I reckon that the majority live in cities and large towns now

Always fighting - Usually ties in with the drinking stereotype. To be honest we're probably no more violent than anyone else

We're all thick - Nope. The majority are well educated

big families- ah, i suppose.it's just where i live, there's a fair families that have 4 or 5 kids.

ginger- again, a fair few gingers from where i live. but yeah, it's like 1 in 20 people are ginger.

devout god-fearing Catholics - yep, we're just not as religious anymore.

majority rural population - definitely more in cities: i mean, about one-and-a-half million people live in dublin ALONE. in a country of 4 million, that's ridiculous.

always fighting - bullshit, yeah. comes from drinking

we're all thick- as a matter of fact, i'd goes as far as to say that we're among the most well-educated people in the world. also, we have some of the best literature in the world.

i'd say between the two of us, we could get most of the stereotypes. i've got a few more:

potatoes- we love them potatoes! seriously, we eat them all the time.

friendly: not as much as we used to be, but we are an overall very cheerful and friendly people.

fun loving: probably comes with the drink, but we are fairly fun-loving and adventurous people.

How could I forget the Potatoes. We do love our spuds.

A couple more

We all drink Guinness - Not really. It tends to be older people(men especially)who drink it.I don't know a single person my age(33)or younger who drinks the stuff.Heineken and Cider are probably the most popular drinks for younger people

We believe in Leprechauns - Nope that's just bullshit we tell tourists to try and get them to spend money on souvenirs
