I know it's shallow, but you have to think rationally. It really depends on what you yourself really wants. There's a lot of different ways this can play out, and you can either be blindly chivalrous, blindly cruel, or calculatingly on top of the ball. Again though, it is completely your choice. Even in the smallest matters, we must be true to ourselves.
Very wise words indeed. I believe I'll try and attempt to stay and true to myself and deliver the phone but I'll attempt to not upset anyone and calculate, thanks.

DO A BARREL ROLL!!!!11ONEONEONE
on a serious note, try to appeal to your friend and convince him to give the phone back to them. You know the ordeal, so you can identify with how she must feel right now.

If you were halfway intelligent you would give it back. Stealing cell phones is theft in the eyes of the law. Depending on the retail value of the phone it could be a nasty mark on your record. And, thanks to the fact that you made this post you are an accessory to the crime. The phone company that provides service can shut the phone down and trace it to a location easily, whether it is a GPS enabled phone or not.

So give the girl her phone back and pretend you have morals.

Classic case of the "Bros before hoes" rule. I'd like to punch whoever made that.

Have you tried explaining the situation to your friend?

Tell him you know the original owner of the phone and that it would be really nice if he gave it back.
-He still doesn't want to give it back? You tried, you shouldn't feel guilty any more.
-He will give it back? You tried and you succeeded, congratulations, you may pet yourself on the head. You are a true hero.

Surely he wouldn't mind you telling him.

Yeah, not to mention that stealing phones from girls is rude. I mean, a dude can turn around and punch your teeth out (I almost did that to my buddy, he tried to catch me from behind and my karate reflexes kicked in... he spent 5 minutes sitting and groaning in pain). A girl is usually the weaker physically one.

Or just grow a spine. People never told you that stealing is wrong, m'key?

That's pretty messed up. Someone stole my iPod and they sold it and I found out later where it was but the person who bought it didn't know it had been stolen so what could I do? I'm not just gonna yank it out of their hands. I just had to let them have the freakin thing!

Tell him that you know who the phone belongs to and to give it back. If he refuses, then I believe the authorities can be called in on the matter since he's willingly holding onto stolen property.

Stealing a phone is a bad Idea...especially if its of the SmartPhone variety.

http://gizmodo.com/5213103/its-become-really-dumb-to-steal-cellphones
Just a few prime examples...

But really, what can you do with a stolen phone? Unless your sure of every policy in your providers plan to make sure they dont track stolen phones or activation humbers, and you just so happen to have the same provider as the person you stole it from...

I guess you can flash it to all your friends, until one of them recognizes it...
It seems like its more trouble then its worth.

Bottom line: Someone who thinks that selling a stolen phone is ok could easily think that other things like taking money that just happens to be lying around his friends house is ok too.

Tell him that the phone will in all likelyhood be locked soon as the owners usually call their service provider to report the theft/loss. It is also possible to trace the location of mobile phones (unlikely, but useful to persuade him).

The girl will have been upset at the loss, and if he returns it, he gets to be the hero of the hour, otherwise he'll be left with a useless lump of metal. If anyone else finds out that he's taken the phone, they will be completely within the law to report him to the police and he'll get a criminal record for the sake of a few quid.

If he refuses to hand the phone back, then advise the girl to get the thing locked - say that you heard her phone was lost, and that was something that you heard was recommended in order to make sure no-one else can use it.

I see where you're coming from but I've had my phone stolen before and no one did anything to help me or track it. It's also not like someone's been murdered. I'm more or less wanting to give it back due to morals rather than worrying about getting into trouble.

I'd say: Buddy, I'll understand if you want to sell than phone, but I have to tell you I know who it might belong to, so if you decide to keep it anyway, don't ever tell me how honorable you are or stuff like that, or I'll laugh you out of the room.

I have to agree that this method seems highly effective and I just might use this.

Yeah I understand. If I confront him it makes it more dependent on his reaction rather than my own.

You do whats right. Trust me, you don't wanna be friends with an thief of oppertunity. Next it'll be YOUR possesions getting stolen and sold. You realise handling stolen good gets your jail time right?

Tell the owner he has it, let her deal with it. With any luck the dumbass wil get whats coming to him.

Sorry but your friend is a thief, don't take the phone and give it to the owner, that would screw him over. What I suggest is first ask the girl if her phone is missing then if she says yes do one of two things. Eather convince your friend to return the phone, if that fails tell the girl you think he may have had the phone but you are not sure.
