I hate what he represents as opposed to him as a human being. The same can be said of Twilight. Being a masturbatory aid for 14 year old girls shouldn't result in being labeled as good music or literature. Both honestly have no real aesthetic value in the worlds of music and literature respectively yet they are grossly popular whereas bands and authors with legit talent are downplayed and cast aside.

The title was on the front page of the most recent Macleans. Here's the article within, I thought I should share with those who don't subscribe:

I initially had the usual irrational dislike for Justin Bieber described in the article, I changed that over time. First of all, the prejudice is because he has succeeded where most males have not without being hyper-masculine. Secondly, he is young, and people view those younger than them in their own gender to be a threat

Not only that, despite everything people throw at him, he's still standing. I find it quite impressive, and to be quite blunt, its a lot more than most people could put up with. Yet he maintains a sunny disposition. Very admirable.
That is the most generalized piece of pop psych i have ever heard. I dislike bieber cuz I don't like his music. At. All. Don't hate him, nor do I have anything against his "lack of masculinity" or his "youth." My problems with him begin and end with his music.

Stop hating on bieber, if you hate his music as much as me, just do what I do. Don't listen to it.

I hate him (and all boy bands) for the same reason I hate terrible cash in movies (like Terminator 3)They take a respectable art form, and milk it for a quick buck. While many real struggling artists and are never heard.

It has nothing to do with jealously or feeling threatened.

The main reason why I think I don't like him that much is because I don't like his music and its fucking EVERYHWERE (or at least it was). I have actually started to ease down the hate on him because of his fans. Bieber fans are like Fox News to me in that every time I hear something about them it always makes me laugh.

I honestly think he needs to watch out because of his crazy, obsessive fan-base. I think, that if he's not careful, he might go the same way John Lennon did.

I hate all pop stars by default. I can't stand the music and I can't stand the soulless marketing machine that parades them around.
Exactly how I feel. He seems to represent all of that.

2) I think the only reason he's as successful as he is, is because of little school girls thinking he's soo handsome. I know that some like his music, but I also know a few who have 2 or 3 versions of the same album. When I asked "Why?" they respond by looking at me like I'm an idiot and saying: "Cause Heee's sooo dreamy". Looks shouldn't contribute to music sales only talent.
Harrison Ford was in the same situation as Beiber in his early acting days, and his rise to fame was chance, just like Bieber's was.

Ford left acting, became a carpenter, worked on the house of George Lucas, became friends with him, and eventually he landed a role in Star Wars.

Beiber's rise to fame was due to a record executive seeing a video on YouTube. Not as lengthy as Ford's rise, but in a similar vein. They both started their rise to fame through chance.

I'm sure he is a decent person to talk to, so I don't have anything against him personally. I'm just tired of hearing about him every five minutes, whether it is to praise him or to hate him. It's annoying, please stop it...

No. He's a douchebag on par with any other celebrity. Possibly more so, BECAUSE he tries to cultivate an image as a nice guy at the same time.

The only difference is that his army of fans is more militant than John Mayer's. Same filth, though.

As I said I'm not denying his rise to fame, just that his popularity right now seems to be more about his looks and not his singing. His music doesn't explain why just about every little girl flocks to see his concerts in a goddamn movie theater (that sold out more than Avatar 3d almost, you should have seen the line ups!!!), you don't need a movie theater to listen to music. I don't care how good any artist looks I will not buy multiple albums and hair clipping for $40K over it, just posters :)

He doesn't what Germany is.
He called himself the Kurt Cobain of his generation.
He's a self entitled little asshole in real life.
And he fucking covered a queen song, fuck him.

there are more reasons to hate him, these just top it for me.

I hate pop-culture in general (pop music too). Any icon of the pop scene is automatically put on my hit-list (worry not, this list is, well... uh, not. never mind). The little squirt is right up there with Spears, Gaga and Michael Jackson. Pop, to me, sucks. Nothing against him personally.

Whey even bring it up? Telling people not to pick on him is putting the topic of discussion on him, and that is going to cause people to come in and pick on him. Why is he even worth talking about in the first place?

I don't like him because he's very conformist... though that's my only problem with HIM. I'm sure he's a nice kid, I just don't like his conformist bullshit. I have a much bigger problem with the boardroom executives who continuously try to shove him down our throats... or, if you want a better metaphor, in our ears.
Isn't subscribing to the counter-culture idea of not conforming actually conforming? "Not conforming" on the internet is pretty popular. It's quite conformist of you.

2 is actually more because of Youtube. In every comment section of a song there will be something Bieber related;

We're practically doing a favour for him by spreading his name. Including now.
