Is Virgin available in the US? I always thought it was an Australian thing. Well taking it to 4chan would whithout a doubt do something. What that is and whether it would be good for us though no one knows.

Virgin kicks ass for cable with their on demand system, though it is still a frustrating mess at times (series missing episodes still happens an annoying amount). Beats Sky anytime. I dont like any move against "net neutrality" (including legislating what "net neutrality" is), but anyone suggesting to get 4chan or some other e-commune involved really shouldnt. Only thing stopping customer activity being heavily montered & regulated in the UK atm is the ISP providers insistence that its impracticle (see government plans to force ISPs to moniter traffic for evidence of illegal downloads). Dont give them a reason to find a practical way to do it (eg their business own protection).

Never under estimate the free market that is the internet.

If Virgin wants to throttle their bandwidth, they are well within their right. They should be wary to know that customers are free to switch off their service and in turn Virgin will suffer much as Comcast has in the US.

Where I see the problem is when there are no other options. When one company has majority or complete control, similar to the ownership of the infrastructure that the "Baby Bells" have. If they were able to persuade authorities to side with them on the line ownership bills they want to pass it will greatly assist them in monopolizing the market, and in turn, the internet.

Call me crazy, but I actually support the idea of posting this on a chan site. You use the materials you have.
This is the second forum I've seen this sort of thing on, and while I don't frequent the place, I'd be willing to bet it's already been posted on 4chan.

BT man here.

Why on Earth are people with Virgin, anyway? In the UK there's like, a thousand (cheaper!) alternatives. With such business tactics such as the ones highlighted in this very thread, why bother with such an appalling system?

I personally say we go into the main headquarters and kill every #!$%ing person in there, of course I'm mentally-scarred lunatic who's ready snap at "how are you?".

I'm with Virgin because I'm a student, only live in my house for 9 months before moving on and Virgin is the only ISP that offers 9 Month contracts for students including the hardware installation.

That said, I am keen to never use Virgin again. Once the contract is up I won't be subscribing to another. I am most displeased with the dispensing of net neutrality - the guiding principle of a free internet. If net neutrality disappears altogether, what differentiates our 'free market' ISP's from the great Firewall of China?

During peak hours (UK) of 6pm - 9pm I am convinced Virgin throttle bandwidth severely, in order to cope with their inadequate service (and massive student user base) in my area. Since being upgraded to a 10mbps, from 4mbps, I have been unable to notice any difference in download speed or general performance until approx 2am, when *most* people are sleeping.
