So, I just watched Season of the Witch (don't ask why), and truth be told, it had potential. There was a sizable portion of the film that really had me wondering if it was going to be a good story. Cage's acting sucked, but that's another matter.

The 'Witch' in question kept hopping from sinister to possibly innocent, with a couple of the other characters having potential to be the bad guy.

Then the movie caught Indigo Prophesy syndrome:
Turns out the Witch is really just a Demon hiding in a young woman's body, and Cage and the others have to team up with the previously questionable priest and his "holy book" (read deus ex machina) to defeat the demon and save the girl.

This is poorly done for a number of reasons. For one, if goes directly against what the movie seemed to be going for when portraying the church as committing as much harm as good. It also throws prior characterization of all participants to the wayside in favor of whacking off a giant demon battle.

Worst of all, though is the fact that it was such a missed opportunity. My wife and I both agreed, the movie would have been much cooler if the twist had been different. Very little of the first 3/4 of the film would have needed to be changed, and it would have made more sense and lead to a more fulfilling climax.

What we wanted to happen was for the witch to actually be a witch, and the demon to be possessing the priest that was constantly threatening her. Doing so would have enabled the main character to complete the arc that was started (but never finished) it would have fleshed the character of the witch out more as well as the priest. It also wouldn't have felt so bloody random.

Alas, it was not be. Moral of the story, don't watch Season of the Witch.

So how about it, escapists? What stories in movies, literature, or games would have been better with a slightly different twist or climax?

The Village. Without that stupid twist, and with some actual monsters that might have been a semi-decent flick, but M. Night twisted it up.

I think Cracked also had a list of movies that would have been better "Had X happened instead of Y"

This might be a popular answer: Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. If only the plot hadn't derailed into space...
