Story of Portal 2?

POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR PORTAL AHEAD. I was chatting with a friend of mine, and I mentioned that a portal 2 is in development. I think that they might just have a different character. The ending of portal one was one that I really liked. How the goal of the protagonist was achieved, even if she died or if she turned unconcious. and was a great ending that really reflected the theme of being imprisoned even though you know what would happen at the end. Because when you are the captive, you would be happy to just see the sun once more before dying. anyway, my friend says that the protagonist is a human and I disagree. He says his proof is when in the game. Glados says something along the lines of, " you are really doing well, you must be the pride of subject 92." meaning the protagonist has relatives and is therefore a human. I said that was most likely for comedy. What do you think? and what do you think portal 2 will revolve around? Besides portals.

She never says that...she says "You must be the pride of 'SUBJECT'S HOMETOWN HERE'" Chell is a human anyways, it's been discussed many a time before just check out the steam forums.

Portal hardly had a story, people are looking far too deep into that game trying to find one. There is no character development, other then being a woman, you have no idea who the main character is, or even why she is there. The computer is only there for comedy and spouts random nonsense. The only other sign of life "ratman" is only there to make the world less sterile.

Portal was a fun game, but it has no more story then any other puzzle game. Portal 2 will most likely be the same way

This is true, but you forget we are dealing with Valve here. They're just the kind of crazies that like to give a puzzle game about a psychotic robot, a nameless girl and her pet cube a hidden story!

Portal has somewhat of a story, it just leaves most of it to your imagination, so looking far into it makes sense. Valve games have always been like that. You don´t know a lot about what exactly happened in City 17 either. Portal is basically about an AI that was supposed to do some of Aperture´s research on its own, but instead killed everyone in the lab, probably because GlaDos has no morals and thought human ethics hindered here in doing her research. So now she kidnaps people to test new devices on and kills them afterwards. That´s enough story for a two hour game for me.

Portal 2 will probably be a prequel, I think. Seems like we´ll be playing with an Aperture scientist.
And I still hope for a cameo of GlaDos in HL.Ep. 3.

I just had an idea. Perhaps the sequel will involve Chell picking through the ruins of Aperture Science, trying to discover who she was. In this game, we can have Combine Scout characters, who chase you when they see you and try to club you with their taser maces. Perhaps we will be guided by the elusive Rat King, who knows?

I don't think there will be. There's only a what, three minute scene with Aperature science in Half Life 2: Episode 2. And they had built a space ship, or rocket, or something weird. I need to go back and play it to find out. If I rememebr correctly, I think Eli refers to Aperature in past tense.

No, they built the boat you see at the end and your mission in Ep3 will be to destroy it. That´s what Eli says right before he dies. Chances are pretty slim that GlaDos will be in there, I agree, but it would be pretty cool. So I´ll just hope.

I've only played portal once at a friend's house, and i think it's similar to stereotypical AI in movies, that have no morals and are willing to make any sacrifices to get to their goal, which in Glados's case (don't know how to spell lol) was research. To answer the cameo thing, i don't think glados will appear in Half life 3, but i think the portal gun will, which would be totally freakin sweet by the way!!~!

Well, if there is combat in the next portal against humans, just remember that only Chell is protected against falling damage because she wears those leg braces. Anyone else would be crushed to death.

I have no idea how they would implement the portal gun into combat similar to Half life 2 though. Portal requires flat surfaces with little obstructions and preferably a ceiling in order to work right. If you've played half life 2 maps with the portal gun through that trick/mod, you'll see that it really doesn't work right and it also kind of cheapens the game as a whole.

I'm with copter in thinking that the squeal will actually be a prequel.

Well, I heard that for the story of Ep. 3 there's going to be some use of Combine technology with long-lasting implications; which prompted me to write a fan-fiction around a "Dr. Robert York", who manipulates the Combine suppression device (a thing that blocks certain chains of DNA to render humans infertile) to block DNA strands of pathogens and bacteria, making diseases and viruses unable to reproduce.
Portal 2 I think will be Chell wandering around the recently destroyed Apeture Science Laboratory, probably towards the Borealis, which dissapears due to her actions somehow.

Nice self promotion, anyway it has allready dissapeared into the noth so with valves history of throwing us around it could be anywhere, or the place where portal took place isn't the boat and your right and....

Yeah, there are actually no hints of whom Chell is, or where she is from... All it really gives us, is that adoption, is apparently funny. Though, I'm not sure what her comment about "bring your daughter to work day" as all about.

GLaDOS gassed everyone in the Aperture Science Research Facility on "Bring your Daughter to Work Day."
This gives the assumption that Chell is one of the daughters.
Can't remember where I heard that, though, I think I looked up "Aperture Science" on Wikipedia.

Personally? i think Half life Ep.3 will have hints and little clues (optional and partially hidden) to what happens to chell, you never meet her but can piece together an idea of her actions, how she kills GLaDOS or escapes to freedom.

OR!!!!

She is a character like Alex who follows along and occasionally performs preset actions like opening portals where possible and necessary.

That way the problem of suitable surfaces is solved, as the AI will only shoot to advance Freeman as he escorts her to safety.
