There is a big difference in graphics between the two games? I'm not sure if a cross over will work because atleast one person is going to look horribly out of place.

What was the website (and password) that takes you to some apperature science database? It pretty much explains everything. Even if the cake is true/false.

UPDATE:

Valve wants voice actors for 'Cave Johnson'

Founder of aperture science and sufferer of mercury poisoning... he commissioned GLaDOS.

As such, either a Prequel is in the works, or an AI, recording or imitation of Johnson is likely.

I am wrong in my last post as Portal 2 is confirmed as a stand-alone.

Valve, like Guy De Maupassant(like at the pretentious prick talking about 19th-century realist writers), has the skill of telling a story without much detail that the player can fill in accurately while plying. They never tell you what's going on, but the player always has a good idea. I completely forgot where I was going with that, but I'll keep it so I can sound smart, talking about French people. I'm guessing, as everyone else is, that it's a prequel, or what happens to the Laboratory during the 7-Hour War, since Aperture Science is in Episode 3, and the boat seemed to disappear, like through a Portal. And that sounds like the cool and weird stuff Valve would do, because the ship was supposed to be in Half-Life: 2

I would personally think that Chell is an android rather than a human - particularly with the testing going on, and the fact that the area is devoid of all humans. The only indication to prove otherwise is the mention of her being adopted, but considering the fact that it comes during a stream of insults designed to distract you, it's not exactly canon.

I hope they keep Half Life and Portal very seperate. They're in the same universe that's enough for me. Trying to introduce characters across the games, or bring the portal gun into Half Life would just come across as a gimmick. So far it's clear that the fact Aperture Science developed portals (and hence the "suddenly missing ship") and the ice-breaking contract was won by Aperture is in Ep 3, and that would just about do it for me.

Why should GlaDos test anything on androids? Doesn't make any sense to me.
I think Chell had just very bad luck. I always thought of it like the movie "Cube". Someone wakes up somewhere, doesn't know why and has to do weird tests to get out (or to get cake...).

But interpretation is one of Valve's ways of storytelling. Everyone's supposed to make up his own mind. That's the beauty of it.

Has anyone else noticed that the Aperture Science website is not allowing access under the name "cjohnson" anymore?
Also there appears to be some kind of Christmas message, complete with a choir singing (well, humming) "Still Alive" and a portal-esque pic of Santa coming down the chimney.

Portal 2 for Xmas maybe? I doubt it considering what Valve have already stated, but I'm going to wish upon a star anyhow...

EDIT: The star went through it's natural stages and became a black hole sucking my hopes and dreams in along with the light around it. See Daezd's post below.

Portal doesn't have much a story. It's like the original Sonic the Hedgehog or Mario games. They had a linear group of platforms (often like puzzles) and you beat them one by one, each time getting progressively harder.

Portal 2 may just be more of the same, or it may be an entirely different game. For all we know, it could be Chell going around saving the world with her Portal Device or something. Unless it's a prequel, it's obviously not going to be in the Aperture Science laboratories seeing as how GLaDOS and the whole interior of the building got sucked outside via portal malfunction.

I'm actually very interested to see how Valve will do this. Knowing them and their previous sequel games, it won't be a bad sequel, but I really can't think of any way they could make Portal 2 without making it horrible.

Thing with portal is it didnt really have much in the way of even puzzles until the last few levels, so I'm not sure how much more they could string out a sequel for.

Note I'm not knocking Portal, in fact it's because I felt Portal was around the perfect length that I feel a sequel could be a bad thing.

I'm still sort of open to being proved wrong tho, and if portal 2 is a good thing, then hell, count me in!

There really isn't much news about Portal 2 out there. http://news.gotgame.com/the-cake-is-a-lie-but-portal-2-is-not-2/ pretty much summarizes everything that is known about it.

I hope the cube will be back. if you walk around the ruins like suggested, maybe you will find it with burnt marks, people who have played will know from what.

UltraJoe has a pretty good idea as to how chell might cameo.
I also think that you willcome across the entrance to Aperture and see Chells body, unconcious or not, and pick up the Portal gun, Gordon may not care about Chell, but we the players will all cry a little inside, I hope the Companion cube made it out alive.

is it just me or does Chell not look a lot like the picture of Alyx Vance's mother in halflife 2? (theres loads of them lying around in halflife 2 for some reason)
I was thinking of this sometime while reading the post. Does anyone even know Alyx's mom's name? I think it is said in Half Life 2 if you look at a picture long enough.

If you've built an android, you want to test the quality of the build. And, if it is an android, A.I. would obviously be key, which means the Chell escape could have been intended - it would have been a test to see if she was human-like enough to want her freedom and fight for it. Then, mass-produce androids who'll fight for their life, and you've got a use against the Combine.

Well, that's enough rubbish creating for me. It would be cool, but unlikely.
