After reading Max Brooks' World War Z i realized that ill never actually be able to quell the Zombie uprising alone. I always dreamed of creating a one man army single handidly wiping them all out, but after reading his book i can see the world will take care of itself......too bad....

A Clockwork Orange, I realised I can get away with anything I want because society will never stop you. And thats why I ran though Sainsburys today sopping wet carrying my friend in my arms while shouting about cloud monsters, it was a good day.

I'd say The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy influenced me, as did Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next and Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.

Oh, and The Night Country (Stewart O'Nan) was very thought-provoking to me.

Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." It's a very smart book and it applies to most aspects of life, not just war.
I tried reading that. I always felt I was missing something by reading it in english, it seemed like it should read like a poem but I suppose that was lost in translation (a pity).

Certainly the Principia Discordia [http://www.principiadiscordia.com/book/9.php], also for related reasons, Illuminatus! trilogy by Shea and Wilson fnord.
Gibson's Neuromancer and related "Sprawl" books had an affect as well, but it pales in comparison to what The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy did to me.
aside: my mother says she might have named me Slartibartfast if the local public radio network had aired the radio series of the same name a few months earlier. That is what you might call a rather close shave.

Necronomicon by Abdul Alhazred

I tried to check out the copy at Miskatonic University, but it was their only one, so I read it cover to cover over a few weeks.

I'm just not seeing things straight anymore now, and I wish I'd never picked up that damned book. The shadows move oddly now, and I swear I can hear voices when I'm alone. Oh God! Oh merciful Lord! Why did I read that book?
I see what you did there.

But I'd have to say Lilith by George MacDonald. It taught me how to not trust naked strangers you find dead in rivers.

I read Hitch hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and became even weirder than I was before.

I bet there some translations are better than others. I didn't thought it would have read like poetry buut it was more like notes.
Really? Might have just been my version but spacing was a bit odd so I thought that they were trying to remain faithful to the original's layout or something, that gave me the impression that it was getting at this being more than prose. Then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

The Zombie Survival Guide. You start to read it and take it as a joke but by about page 30 you really want to go outside and buy a machete. Just to be safe.

I don't think I've met anyone who'd read it and not made a zombie survival plan.
I sure would like to read that. I'm gonna search for it when I'm by the bookstore.
