You mean it isn't? Another childhood belief ruined. For me, I guess the belief that people don't lie without a reason. Sadly, it seems often people just make up stuff to piss me off.

That there was a giant sewer troll living in the toilet, and that he would climb out of the toilet as soon as you turned the lights off.

I always thought I could catch up to people older than me, age-wise. I also thought the world was far fairer and just than it is.

Well there are tigers in my front yard trees and lions in my backyard trees. Every time something small goes missing it's because of the ghosts living in my house. Oh and there are dwarfs, elves and dragons in the valley next to my neighbourhood.

i had to check my room every night for a green sockpuppet that jumped up and out of somemud and grabbed me in a dream. also the monster under the bed thing and a story that my attic was the start of a murder and it finished by a woman being drowned in the bathroom so i kept thinking that i would see her. my brother told me that last one and it really got me crappin myself. also figaronti who is the gnome that lived in my fridge and turned the light on whenever you opened the door. i was convinced that if i was quick enough that i could catch him out :p

Some days, it seems this entire forum (by nature of being an Internet forum) is a hodgepodge of strange childhood delusions. ;)

I once honestly believed (circa 1992 or thereabouts) that scientists in Japan were genetically engineering 12 or 18-inch tall Godzillas. I even went so far as to write a paper on them for school (a 'letter to the editor' on the topic of what an ideal pet would be). I don't remember getting a bad grade on the paper or anything so much as I remember my classmates being genuinely angry with me because of it, almost like they thought I'd decided to not take the assignment seriously and play a joke on our teacher. They didn't laugh at me for believing such a preposterous idea, they were actually red-in-the-face angry. Sure, I believed in micro-kaiju, but they got upset about it.

Santa.
A certain deity.
Ghosts.
Fairness.
Equality.
That babies were formed like plants.
That I was special.

I heard a news report that illegal aliens were crossing our border.

Needless to say, I freaked out.

I always thought Bloody Mary existed, for those of you who don't know, it's said that if you look into a mirror in complete silence at night when there is absolutely no more sunlight, so far from people that no one can hear you scream, that when you look into your own eyes and whisper "Bloody Mary" 3 times she was supposed to appear and kill you (or consume your soul, something like that). Of course, its fake.

I believed in Santa Claus.

I also believed that if I didn't eat a lot of fruit and vegetables my ears would fall off. It made sense to me, since everyone told me I needed to eat nutritious food...

I believed the world was a happy place, but there was so much bad stuff going on when I was younger I became used to the thought that no matter how happy I was, there was misfortune waiting around each corner to ruin my mood, sometimes harm me.

I can't remember any more stuff...

Now THAT is something even I wouldn't believe when I was younger. Have you noticed how many Americans celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Halloween etc? Most Americans can't even show you what country the holidays came from on a map. I can give more examples but I don't wanna anger the patriotic rednecks on this site XD

I believed with all my heart that if i didnt even need to care to be good at something. Playing pretend, and watching horror movies that i could critique played a large role in why i thought the world was easy. LIES! LIES I SAY!!

Magical elves turn on the streetlights at night, and morning dew is what happens when they explode from being hit by sunlight.
I think Stephanie Meyer is probably going to use that idea for her next Twilight book.
I think she would use ANYTHING in Twilight. It's such a bad book yet there are so many people who like it. In my school there is this one girl who started dressing in black and wears Twilight shirts almost everyday since the movie came out. She was made fun of before but now EVERYONE thinks shes retarded.

I believed I could get to china if I dug a really deep hole :p

I was never curious, as I thought everything would reveal itself in due time. I used to watch documentaries and read science books a lot.

Idealistically, you could say I believed that the human race had the capability to attain all knowledge if we put our minds to it, but that's crap. I just thought that if there was something to be known, it would make itself so. This was in the days of the internet, too. So you could say that I was right.

I believed that people didn't always grow up to be jaded assholes who decide that the insane ramblings of Richard Dawkins and the fact that the neighbor kid beat you up was enough to determine that there is no ultimately benevolent force in the universe.

Wasn't I silly?

Seriously, the world's not great. Deal with it. SMILE. There. Doesn't it hurt? That's because you haven't done it in years because you're too busy sulking, saying "poor me" and how much the world sucks. Get up and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
