The Desert Desert (Sahara), The Great River River (Rio Grande), The The Tar Pit Tar Pits (La Brea)...

Okay, on a more serious note, "Fucking, Austria" has already been mentioned. I'm sure pretty much every country has something along the lines of "New ", or downright "New City", lazy naming conventions.

There's of course, also

Also, for some incomprehensible reason, "Winnipeg" sounds inherently funny to me.

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu

"The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one".

Which to me sounds like no one actually bothered naming it properly so any one going there had to describe it by the legend that was suppose to have happened there and eventually everyone was just went "fuck it, that can be it's official name now".

And a street in Auckland called Cockburn street.

I swear down there's a place in/near Wiltshire called Ooo'err.
People from that area may have to verify that, I used to go down to Wiltshire all the time as a kid.

Cockburn street in Edinburgh? That streets awesome, it had shops selling cute dresses and Hello Kitty stuff.

Wales is full of funny name places to people not from Wales. It just looks like wytytngggpwlltr ggijr8.

I've actually seen a sign for "Street Road", which strikes me as rather redundant, but hey, I'm not the person who names these things.

About 2 miles south of Baker California there is a road that to this day I have no idea how to pronounce.

...Skaighs? Like.. thighs, and sky put together? I... Skaighs?

There's a town in Wales called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, nobody - not even the Native Welsh - are able to pronounce it.

Funny enough I know several Welsh people that can pronounce it and say it without any worries. They laugh at others who try which is funny to attempt.

Couple of years back there was a poll in the local newspaper in Southern Norway that had people vote for the funniest/dumbest area names.

The winner of said poll was a name that effectively translates to, "sperm bank" (apparently it gets a lot of fish spawn). Another outstanding name was, "laughter creek".

When I was going to college in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, I would pick up my sister at the Reading campuss of Penn State and drive home every weekend, it was a few hours drive. PA has some weird place names.

Driving around my adopted home of Northampton, I noticed a Vyse Lane. The Skies of Arcadia fan in me appreciated that name, I only hope it leads to Aika Road and Fina Close.

Also, a couple of towns over, can't remember where but there is a place called Clickers Hill. Having played The Last of Us, I'm never going to that hill.

Living in north Austin Texas there's a pretty busy street called Parmer Lane. Not the funniest thing ever but after living here for a year I still want to say Palmer. There's also a highway called the MoPac express way. I've no idea how it's supposed to be pronounced or if it's short for something else but I've always pronounced it Moe Pack. Our GPS likes to pronounce it Mopick.
