Assuming your computer become underpowered long enough ago, I'll recommend Civ4 with the Beyond the Sword expansion. It's the most impressive thing I've seen (not that I claim to have seen all that much) since the original Master of Orion: I got the same sense of "hey I can play this game in a lot of different ways" feeling again.

There's one anthology that collects Civ4, the Warlords expansion, AND BtS; then there's another one that collects those four AND the remake of Colonization--be careful because they have similar names. I've heard...Colonization was a bit of a letdown to those of us who loved the original--seems a lot of the charm is gone, and it's more a Civ4 mod than a true Colonization game.

A certain Escapist reviewer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/5316-Review-Civilization-IV-Colonization] called Colonization a fans-only proposition last year...

Age of Empires 3 and the expansions are good games with a failr active online community. I am on ESO as often as I can. Same name there as on here.
Other than that save your money for Starcraft 2

AOE III is complete donkey cock comapared to AOE II.

Hard to argue with this...key words being compared to AOE II. Compared to most RTS, it's certainly in the ballpark of first-rate if not necessarily on the field.

So after being on a garbage computer for a long time. Now, I've got a new laptop. Better than my old one but not a monster rig by any means. I'm hoping to get some games to play on it but, being a consoler, I'm mostly clueless.

So any strategy game recomendations you guys could give me would be much appreciated, turn-based or RTS, I'm game for anything. Some of my favorites are the Total War series (haven't been able to play Empire yet, sadly), Civilization, and Hearts of Iron.
