Well, it's that time of year again. High school finals! Who else has these coming up? Should I stop violently masturbating stressing out all day? Any tips on it?

[Uk here]

I had 3-4 days to revise for this Geography test.

It's an easy subject to pass but there is SO much waffle so it's giving me a headache.

Only need 40% to get an A though so shit is cool. Need 91% to get an A*.
Which board are you doing yours with? Mine isn't until the 18th. We seem to have more sensible grade boundaries on ours...

Well, besides narrowing down what I have to study (see spoiler).
So, I found out how to successfully glitch my county's finals system. All course finals are county standard tests, that is they come from the magic elves in the office next to the wizards that decide when school is cancelled. Your four quarterly grades are added up as thus;
A=8
B=6
C=4
D=2
So if I got all B's in a course I would have 24 points. Now, final exam grades contribute points in a similar way, each grade contributes so many points to your over all "score". Then your over all grade for a class depends on how many points you have, so lets say a "B" over all is like 20-34 points. If I have twenty points from my grades in the course, and lets say the max points I can gain from the final would be 12, I can't possibly get an "A". So what I would do is show up, write my name on my test, and turn it in. Then I'd have a "B" in the course without all the stress.
I usually procrastinate, which creates more stress. here are some tips that teachers have given me
Tips said:
-eat not just a full breakfast, but a full dinner as well.
-Double check but don't second guess
-Don't break up with your girlfriend/boyfriend (No seriously, one of my teachers has put this on his top ten tips to passing finals. A list that he shows his class every year.)
-Try to relax
-Always read the questions first, no sense in reading two pages about natural selection when the first question asks what a ribosome does

This is what pisses me off about A levels at the moment, in furhter maths I could get Us in the next 2 exams and get an A overall (due to my current hoard of marks in maths exams), yet i need to average 90% in them for an A*, and losing 10% can sometimes just be down to making a stupid mistake due to misreading/misinterpreting something, panicking (which I do a lot before and during exams) or just getting a paper that doesn't go down well with you, despite you being able to do just fine on all the other ones you've practiced on.

The fact that losing this 10% can happen regardless of your knowledge of the subject, and affect your whole grade really does put so much pressure on (on me at least). Especially since Cambridge saw that my weakest subject was chemistry, so specified an A* in A level chemistry as part of their offer.

Exams are just terrible, terrible things and IMO are a bad way of judging somebody's academic abilities.

Overall As rely on total marks throughout all of your exams over the 2 years. A*s rely on getting 90% in specified modules (normally all of your second year ones) in most cases, meaning you could do amazingly in everything but a select few exams, and not get an A*. Isn't this the case for all exam boards in the UK?

Stress? My advice: Watch a movie. Might I recommend Scorpion King 3? I guarantee it'll relieve your stress.

Or you could, y'know, study or w/e. But that's silly. Scorpion King 3. Do it.

It's not the finals exams that bother me, it's the end of the year projects(known as summatives on my school board). They're big, they're annoying, and I never start them until the last 3 weeks of school, which is right now. Usually I wouldn't be too concerned but this is my final semester, and if I fail a single course I don't meet my credit requirement for graduating, which is not cool.

I have never had a issue with stress so I have never been good at helping people around me relax when they are stressed. I don't really get overwhelmed almost ever when things start to bother me I have a really easy time knowing when I am just wasting me time and energy. At the same time it can be frustrating for people when they are stressed and I don't appear to be taking them seriously.

Yeah, I have those projects too. In fact, the final one is due tomorrow, as in 2 days before my first final. They really serve no purpose

Best thing you can do is stay positive. I always panic, usually when I'm actually doing the exam, and a question doesn't make sense when I first read it so I get upset and don't try my hardest because I think I'll do badly anyway.

I have recently (within the last year) lost the ability to care about anything. It really is strange. I used to get anxious over rather trivial things and then it suddenly sort of.. turned off. As such, I don't really care about my exams at the moment. I know this will come to bite me in the ass when my amygdala decide to start working again, but until then I'll be grateful for the temporary respite.

I hope you get into Cambridge, why degree are you going to do?
I do too xP, I'm doing a natural sciences degree (the way you start any science degree at Cambridge), and hoping to go into physics from there.

I'm jealous of you A'Level students, I finished mine four years ago and I'd have got a couple of A*s... IF THEY'D BEEN BROUGHT IN BY THEN.

Now I do an art degree... no exams in an art degree! *victory punch* (Coursework deadlines are in June, though.)

Just to play devil's advocate, the whole point of the A* grade is consistency. That said, I'm glad none were required for my university entrance, it is a lot of extra stress.

I completely agree that written exams are bullshit though. But just a heads up in that regard since you're looking at Cambridge... I'm at Oxford, and the exams are no less bullshit and no more representative of anything other than your ability to sit exams here than they were at school (and mine are in two and a half weeks- woot!). Potentially more so.

Not trying to put you off, but do think about it. I wish I had :S

I've had half of my exams.
Due to a 6 week virus that I'm still fighting, I'm fucked.
Yesterday I lost my only chance to get an A...
Now I believe I'll get a low B, C and E...

Had my final physics exam today.
Went worse than I expected. I don't know why I expected much though, as I've barely opened the book these past few days.
