Ok, let's get rid of the thing that tells us we're in danger.
And let's only eat the thing that can literally kill us because it's so salty.
And let's only ever eat that; no carbs, no protein, no fat.

I also wonder how this will speak to BDSM fetishists. Not good, no doubt.

There you have it guys, let yourself get used as punching bags until you don't feel the pain anymore and you'll live longer. School delinquents now actually do something for your health care.

Scientists have been puzzled as to why people who experience chronic pain tend to have shorter lifespans,
What's to be puzzled about? It's all just basically mind over matter.

Your mind has a vast amount of control over how physically strong or weak your body is, it why you get some 80 year old's that piss and poop themselves and would be killed by a strong gust of wind, and you have some that are still power-lifters. It's why some people 100% recover from a near fatal wound, some people stay crippled forever and some people die outright.

If you think and feel old, frail and weak you will become so, if you think you are indestructible you will stay tough and strong. If you think you will recover you are far more like to, if you think you are going to die you probably will.

It why kids are so physically resilient than adults even though adults are physically stronger, because kids think they are indestructible they don't know better, and it's to their advantage. Whilst adult have come to terms with mortality and it will often lead them to giving up prematurely.

So naturally people who stuffer pain often will think they are weaker or broken, so it's natural that they become weaker and die sooner than people who don't think that way.

Finally, something I do actually prolongs life rather than shortens it, I love spicy food. Maybe I won't drop dead next weak after all.
You should never take articles like these as advice on diet. This is a media interpretation of experimental findings which is often presented in an exaggerated form because that's what makes people interested. The original source for this article makes no conclusions, it refers to genetic experiments (rather than nutrient related as it might seem) done on mice, drosophila and C. elegans.
Hello again. I wasn't planning on changing my diet based on this, it's just nice to hear something you eat is potentially life extending. Besides, it's not like we're talking about anything experimental and possibly dangerous here, people have been eating peppers since the dawn of man. I've already heard from various dietary sources that hot peppers were good for you, so this isn't really unprecedented news.

Edit: Meh, how about we just skip to the point where the article says whatever you want it to say? That way you can be right twice in one day and I can get the pleasure of leaving this "discussion" early.

I find this quite interesting.

My mom loves to point out/question that even though I eat the way I do and look the way I do(being a bit overweight, not having a very diverse diet), I don't have diabetes, while she does. She keeps saying, "I have diabetes, so you're going to have it sometime."

The funny thing is, I love spicy food. If I'm eating chicken, it's going to be spicy chicken if I can get it. I eat spicy chips. I eat spicy cheese. Though I haven't lately(keep forgetting to buy more), but anytime I had pizza I use to shake a lot of black pepper on it, and when I'm at a sit down pizza place, the crushed red pepper on it as well.

On the other end, my mom hates spicy food. Her spicy tolerance is extremely low, to the point where she'll call things with just a few flecks of black pepper on it, spicy and too hot.

Granted that doesn't prove the research, but it is interesting.

Capsaicin is good for you because it boosts your metabolism and provides more satiety when added to food, so there's a general trend of lower weight regain across studies of its effect upon consumption.

You seem awfully grouchy. I wasn't even trying to argue with you here so I don't understand why you're getting all bent out of shape. I completely agree with what you said. I was merely brushing aside your apparent concern that I was misinterpreting the article, I acknowledged that the article only states spicey food has the "potential" to be life extending, and never claimed I thought the experiment in the article was nutritional in nature. Hopefully all this bickering hasn't completely ruined your day.

What happens if the food is that hot it causes you pain ?

I like Hot food, not too hot mind you i like madrass not vindaloo but a decent amount of spice can bring out the flavor of food.

Unfortunatly, parts of the world where people eat a lot of spicy foods almost all have significantly shortened life expectancy for unrelated reasons, so we won't be able to do any long-term studies on them.
