Normal things that I carry: Wallet, watch, keys, phone, spare pen/pencil.
Slightly stranger things: Flash drive full of homework, flash drive full of emulators, MP3.
Really strange things: Mood ring.

Things I would carry in my pack if I could find a suitable one: Leatherman Wave, deck of cards, my huge headphones, at least one book, some sort of puzzle book in case of boredom... a few other things that don't immediately come to mind.

Keys, wallet, ID, phone inside my big cross-body bag. I feel naked without that bag. And the occasional book. I'm not counting things like jackets etc.

Papaw ointment. The glorious salvation for my lips, its glossy touch brings healing and goodwill in times of great desperation.

I carry the exact same stuff as OP. I usually wear a watch as well, if that counts as carrying. But then again I'd have to count my clothes too...which I also usually wear.

I always carry pants everywhere. I think that's pretty important. Clothes in general, really. Not socks though, they're evil.

Mobile phone, house keys, wallet containing various bank cards and money/just the cards and cash if i cant fit the wallet in my pocket, and photocard driving license. Anything else is not vital and can be considered an option extra.

Phone, keys, screwdriver, watch, wallet7 and something to read. It used to be a paperback, but now it's a kindle.

I also used to also carry a portable gaming device, but my phone takes care of that now.

I have my usual keys, phone, ipod, watch, stuff like that. I also carry in my vehicle a fully stocked trauma kit and rescue kit. On my person I usually have a flashlight, my work pagers, multitool, boot knife, emergency field guides, and a pen and paper.

Keys, which includes a bottle opener and a stupid engraved metal tag that I intend to keep as long as possible as I've had it since I was 8 (bought at a service station with money left over from a school trip...)

Wallet - cash, cards, photo-ID driving license, workplace door-swipe, stamps, etc

Phone (...communications, calendar, watch, gps/map, music, internet, entertainment, calculator, camera, torch, compass, starmap, phrasebook, guidebook, parked-car locator...)

.... er, what else do we tend to actually need, any more? Particularly "need badly enough to slightly restrict mobility and increase risk of theft whilst carrying it"?

I have a reputation for travelling heavy, but it's not true on an everyday basis. The back of the car is often full of anti-breakdown charms (a good quality jack, air pump and tyre sealant to ensure that I never so much as get a puncture much less a blowout, spare can of fuel to ensure I never forget to fill up, first aid kit and booklet to ward against injuries occurring, etc etc) but that's because getting stranded on the road can often badly ruin your day if not month.

Sometimes maybe a miniature screwdriver with a reversible end (philips or flat-head) or set of headphones as well, but not often. A short USB-A to micro-USB lead may be a common feature from now on seeing as my phone needs charging for about 6 hours out of every 24.

"Travel card" or "Travel pass", usually? (transit pass, some places, or "oyster card" if you've the misfortune to be stranded in london)
