The original final fantasy tactics. When your mission is to "protect an ally". Anyone who played the game knows what i'm talking about .
" Hey i have no weapon, and 50hp, i'm going to punch the boss in the face with my bare fists, with a 5% chance of hitting him!".

Years back, playing Neverwinter Nights. My big dumb paladin went dungeon crawling with a rogue since he needed someone dispos- I mean clever to deal with traps. We get to the bottom of a dungeon and start fighting the boss. I forget what it was but it had some psionic attacks and was really annoying. About halfway through the fight, the rogue decides it's the perfect time to run off and disarm traps. Meanwhile the boss is stun locking me with psychic attacks, leaving its unmarred and completely stabbable back completely unguarded. This lasted for several minutes.
That was working as intended. What? You never played a D&D session where the rogue ran off in the middle of battle to do something unhelpful to the party? I can remember multiple times this happened...
Me: "Dude, you could have backstabbed that Illithid, what the hell are you doing?"
Rogue: "Checking the next room for magical items... err... scouting for enemies?"
Me: "..."

One of the later versions of Turrok on the PC. Your side kick cannot die, however he can be knocked down and forced to repair. As a result, because he always runs right into fire, he's pretty much useless. He also can't shoot for shit, but i suppose that's not so much stupid as useless.
