Simple question. When people are extremely racist/stupid/aggressive towards you how do you deal with it? What do you do with someone who just wants to fight with you for no reason other then they can and their balls are bigger because they are on the internet.

I found the best way handle situations like this in real life is to just keep moving on. Heck, that's what you do on the forums too. Just don't start fights. Even when I play video games without friends, I tend to leave the mic out.

Today however I was a little hopeful in humanity. So I fired up Mag, plugged my mic in and got called...well a rather large number of interesting racial slurs I hadn't heard before and many many many racial slurs that I had heard a billion times before. I let it go on for about twenty minutes into the match (It was a match of domination so the matches was thirty minutes long.) However, it just started to really irritate the hell out of me(and kinda distract me from giving orders as squad leader) so I told them to shut the hell up. Which only made matters worse.

So what do I do? Do I leave my mic out? I like to interact with people while playing my games but every time I put it in, I really just want to rip the microphone out and launch a tactical nuke towards the other players.

Seriously...it makes my blood boil with anger sometimes. It shouldn't be this hard to play with people. And don't get me wrong, it doesn't happen everytime. It happens like maybe once every ten times I actually have my mic in (given the game I guess. Some communities are worse then others) but when it does boy do I get angry.

I usually just respond with "whatever troll" and mute them. There's really no point in getting angry at idiots who spout racial slurs over the internet, why? Because their 'insults' are generic, impersonal and meaningless. People will always be aggressive in competitive games, shooters especially, just remember that the anger isn't really directed at you personally, but at the avatar and low quality mic voice which represent you.

I would mute ummm or just leave the match I mean they would feel like pritty big tools if they couldnt enter a match without people automatically leaving.

You can either choose to be unusually happy, and try to irritate them off, mute them, ignore them, or leave yourself.
Don't bother arguing unless you like wasting your breath.

I look at them, look back at me and realise: "Sucks for them they aren't me"

Elsewise I just act like a sarcastic twat towards them.

I just ignore it. Once you stop paying attention it can be quite funny. Especially the time some guy was shouting all sorts across the mic and eventually you just heard in this deep and throaty voice "If you do not shut up right now I'm going to hunt you down and rip your face off".

Realise it's the internet and move on. That could mean ignoring them, or intentionally starting an argument with them, depending on how bored I am.

I think the issue is with you if you're really allowing this to bother you so much.

my mate and i have made it a habit to just say "Hmmm is that right?" (off one of the My Wife And Kids episodes, so it's even more funny for us) to whatever they say until they give up. i find that effective.

Yup.
Mute button works. Otherwise welcome to the world of online gaming, it doesn't get better.
