Don't say that! I'm working up the energy to finish it, and you're not helping. *pout*

I read the first book and actually got so angry with it that I went to David Edding's homepage to find an e-mail address so I could send an Angry Letter(TM) asking why every single book he's (technically "they") has written since, what, The Elenium series has been exactly the same. Do you know what I found? In the site's FAQ they actually answer the question: the books obviously sell, so why change a winning recipe? Why write an original story with original characters when the same-old will do?

That made me so depressed that I never sent that Angry Letter(TM).

OT: I have nothing original to add to the list of awful plot twists, mostly because I'm tired. But I AM getting tired of the "bad guy is protagonist's parent/sibling/best friend" one.

Just the way they are strung together. Solidus, Liquid and Solid Snake turning out to be imperfect clones of Big Boss. Liquid dying then coming back somehow through Ocelot's new arm, only for that to really be him having gone serious psychohypnosis and not really be Liquid, how Big Boss was really alive all that time.

The biggest disappointment for me was when Snake actually did not off himself. Its not that I like watching suicides, but the story and the game had been constructed to a point that there was not much else you could do with the character. Then, in comes a long-winded monologue from Big Boss who explains that the virus Snake is carrying was tailored to kill everyone involved with the Big Conspiracy. Snake gets to retire and we're left going "huh?"

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the games mostly. If half of the plot twists did not just spring themselves from the ether, then I might have received them better, in my humble opinion.

Nice username by the way, love Dethklok
Yeah I agree with most of those, and notice that they all come from the more bat-shit insane entries in the series, MGS2 and 4. I hate 4's story for these very reasons. 2 was kindof all over the place at times, but it made sense philosophically. 4 was just... a clusterf---, on so many levels.

I've briefly scanned the pages so far and haven't found any mention of From Dusk Til Dawn, when everyone
turns into vampires, and the main guys have to kill the vampires. Did I mention there were vampires?!?!
You go from a decent getaway story involving a likable guy with his crazy brother who rapes and kills trying desperately to outrun the police, just trying to get to Mexico for sanctuary to a
motherfucking vampire shootout in a bar? The fuck?!

That wasn't so much a plot twist as it was just a stupid explanation. The hippie family kept saying right from the beginning that it's the plants that are making everyone kill themselves, so it's not really a surprise.

EDIT: I actaully have a question about a non stupid plot twist: Right before the very end of inception, does the top keep spinning or not? Becuase I turned away and when I looked back it was the credits, so I didn't see if it started wavering or not.
They say his ring was his totem, so it doesn't matter. Either way Cobb walked away showing that he only wanted to be where he was happy, so it still doesn't matter.
OT:Fight Club. I mean what the fuck? M I RYE?(JOKE)

The most hilarious one that comes to my mind is a little known movie called dead silence which I saw on the syfy channel (which is an instant mark of quality).

Basically, this dudes father is in a wheelchair, and in every shot of him his daughter is standing just behind him. At the end of the film the dude discovers his dad leaning forward on his own. His entire chest is empty apart from a stick sticking down from his neck. Turns out the guy was a puppet controlled by his daughter.

Needless to say, I burst out laughing. It was awesome.
That wasn't his daughter, that was his wife. Don't watch the movie on tv either, the Unrated version was pretty awesome and some scenes freaked me out.

Which movie had the 'it was all a dream' twist specifically? I know that a soap opera did that to fix a couple of seasons worth of colossal fuck-ups, but I can't think of any movies that had that type of twist.
Sorry just had to answer this, I think it was Rosanne. They jumped the shark way too much. Also the show sucked.

YES.

Also, if it counts as a twist.

Not exactly. It wasn't a dream, but a story the "real" Roseanne Connor was writing based on her life and family, but also with whatever changes she thought were best.

I disagree with the show sucking, but individual taste and all that, so whatever.

The Empire Strikes Back. That made no sense. You already know by Episode III that Anakin is Luke's dad. So why does everyone call the climax of ESB a twist??
...
I think I heard something snap in my brain when i read that.

Worst twist ever - "and it was all a dream"

What about Jacob's Ladder?
It was not exactly a dream, more a kind of hallucination experienced by Jacob as he was dying. And it had a point (he went through all that to accept his son's death, so he could die in peace), which made it a very good twist, not an empty one like it usually is when you discover "it was all just a dream".

But more importantly, that twist, and the whole movie before it, was/were pure genius, so even if it had been all a dream, I still wouldn't put it into the "stupid twists" category.

Oh, wait, you mentioned Inception in the same paragraph. I get the joke now. Shame on me.

In that case, it's both A and B.
Relax, it's just a joke.

You don't seem to get the point... it was a stupid, trollish joke, thus you acted like a stupid troll. Due to the fact, that I lack any evidence that you are not a stupid troll, it's pretty safe to assume, that you are one. Period.
Wait, before this devolves into a flame war, let me get my popcorn.

Okay, carry on.
