Tomorrow I have to hand in a maths assignment. I couldn't do it and I am going to fail miserably. As you would guess I'm not looking forward to this. Have there been any points in your life you had to just say 'Thats it, I fail'?

EDIT: I'm bored so I am going to extend the text:

Normaly I wouldn't care about such things, they happen. But in this case out of all the people who show up for class, I am like the only one who can't grasp the subject. So tomorrow I have to walk in there, and admit in front of everyone that I couldn't do it. Just the thought of being in the middle of a class of around 15 people and announcing I am the only one who couldn't finish it is just a downer.

EDIT 2: I think people so far have missed the point a bit. I'm interested in YOUR experience in this situation, mostly to make me feel better. I know that everyone fails at some point.

Yep that has happened to me a lot sometimes I can just talk my way out of it because I'm good at making up excuses but more often than not you just have to deal with it and while not being fun you try harder the next time.

That's the way of life, man.

You can't be good at EVERYTHING. You just try hard to do what you can, and if you fail, learn and move on.

No.
My life is full of nothing but success.
My standards and expectations for some things are so low though it would be impossible for me to actually fail.

I've been there many times. It sucks, but just try and do what you can, man. That's all anyone can do.

Of course. And it's a crappy feeling, but it's ephemeral. Failure is a necessary and valuable part of life. You screwed the pooch on this one thing...life will go on, you will recover and be aces on the next thing. :)

I'm on my third shot at Math90. So, there have been a few times I've had to say, "Fuck it, I lose again."
Another with maths problems! Sucks don't it.

By tomorrow I'm supposed to have a finished research paper that is seven pages long. I have just picked a topic, but have yet to even make a title page. I. AM. SCREWED.
Even if I manage to squeeze out seven pages, they won't be very good, and i will get a bad grade and my mother will once again tell me she is 'dissapointed' because apparently everyone in my family thinks I am some sort of super brainiac, destined to be an engineer at MIT, despite the fact that I am absolutely terrible at math.

But after next week I can give up this failed experiment of 'community college' and join the military as I intended, so I can gain some discipline and perspective.

I've been there, My Sociology Course last year.

Can't you talk to the proffesor/teacher before or after class and explain the situation in private rather than in front of the entire class?

My consumer math class right now.
Even if you do your best and think you're doing it right, you're doing wrong.
I've gotten to the point where I do what I can and accept that I failed.

thats my plan, but I'm more angry at myself for missing the only lecture they had to cover the entire assignment. I didn't mean to, everyone oversleeps once in a while. Just sods law it was that day.

I'm an artist, linguist, historian...made it through 11 years of Uni with flying colours....

my math skill......

lets just say looking at numbers is gibberish to me, I have no ability to do anything beyond the very basics " except the more visual maths like trig, geometry, and some form of theoretical physics" but give me " 1 1/4 = 3 3/16 = " and my head will explode, cant read music.. but I can pick up any instrument and master it based of sound alone..

and it's nothing to be ashamed about really... some brains are just not wired to possess somethings the same as others... " sadly from what I've noticed with my own children being in school, is they dont really teach to educate, they teach so that kids can pass state exams so they can get better funding"

I'd just say, do your very best...fail or not.. and look forward to and excel in things that you do have a masterful skill for.. and look at it like this... once you pass grade school/elementary-mid school....most of what gets shoved at you will have no real Bering in your adult day to day life ( as far as usage) unless you enter a field or hobby requiring said skill...

if your useless, dis interested in advanced mathematics, or science, but excel and have a passion for history, or literature, or something else... hmmm.. then guess what you're going to be basing your university life, and eventual career paths based off of >.>,,,,, if you need a certain credit level in a given level of math to advance, just plug on best you can.. talking to a prof/teacher can help abit, same with any peers in the class, but don't let too much get to you and muck up your mind and create any unneeded stress.

To be honest, there haven´t been many situation, where I simply couldn´t grasp something. After all, I´m studying the humanities (or arts or whatever you call it). It´s a bit different with natural sciences. On the other hand, what I am very familiar with, is giving up. It´s becoming all too common for me to sleep my mornings away and skip classes. I really need to get a grip. You should do the same. Life kicks you in the head every now and then, but you simply get up, shrug it off and keep going. Focus on the big picture. One failed math assignment isn´t going to kill you. Good luck!

Usually I can lie myself out of it. Try a lie that's believable, and places the blame on something uncontrollable and generally blamable for everything. "My computer crashed" or "My printer broke" is a good one. But for math, try, "My calculator broke." or "I was drunk, so the numbers leapt off the page and attacked me." Try something, at least.

Ahhh I see, I misunderstood the post, I thought you just didn't comprehend the lecture, not that you missed it all together. Sorry.

This hapened to me this week actually. I saw the Midnight showing of Watchmen and didn't get home until 3:45 (Its a bit of a drive to the nearest IMAX Theatre) and slept straight through my 2 classes on Friday. Turns out both professors announced a test for Monday and spent the time reviewing. I was just going to ask what I missed to the people around me but when the teacher said 'Ok put everything away, I hope you all studied' My heart sank.
Bombed it. BAD.

So I go to my next class completely dejected. I tell the girl next to me what happened and as soon as I see her face I know what my teacher is going to say 'Alright, clear everything off...' I honestly thought I was going to cry.

I thought I'd fail miserably in my maths in high school, somehow I just went right in and came out with a passing middle grade.

I'm actually in the same predicament as I type this. At this point, I figure there's no point in studying for this test all night if I'm going to bomb anyway... so fuck it and bail. You ain't the only one man don't worry.
