my computer has always been very swift to start up, exept since yesterday. It started uo quickly, and then there was a windows update, and since then my computer has taken around 10 minutes to get to the desktop. Im not sure whats happened, but does anyone know any methods of speeding up startup time??

If it helps, i have a packard bell PC, and i have windows vista ultimate. Also, i keep clearing games off my hard drive and putting them onto a portable hard drive. I dont know what that has to do with anything at all, but im putting it down just in case its somehow interfering.

Do you run Disk Defragmenter? And clean up temporary files?

I know heat can affect a computers speed but unless you're in a very warm room I don't think that should affect start up...

Um maybe the update screwed up the registry, a messed up registry can have a significant effect on start up times. Also maybe spyware or adwaire may be slowing it down. You might want to try a system restore to a point before the update was installed. If the computer boots up faster after that then you can probably safely say it's the update that's causing the problems. Other than that you could always move all your important files to the external drive and do a factory reset. That'll fix it.

Download IOBit 360 and AdAware. Run both the scans they offer, and they should clean up any malware, spyware, and adware that you might have on your computer. Other than that, I don't really know, that's somewhat strange.

Make sure you aren't starting anything unnessary when you boot as this can significantly increase boot time (you can check this in the control panel or with a program such as CCleaner), this update may have started up something which is hogging your processor and making you boot slower.
