You examine the extremely futuristic world around you, completely disoriented, but aware enough to at least try to piece together what just happened.

You look up and notice a screen with a programmer behind it.

"Yeah, sorry everyone, I needed to fix a bug. It's really important. Just sit tight, this will only take like 5 minutes." he says while gazing into his computer screen. He's typing, and moving his mouse frantically and much quicker than humanly possible.

The screen turns back off again a few seconds after he's informed you of the situation.

Exactly 5 minutes later, the intercom tells you to sit back and close your eyes again so you can be put back into the simulation.

What do you do?

*Shrug* "Whatever." I would just embrace it and do what I'm told. There is no point in trying to fight it. I have a good life, simulation or not there is no reason to run away from it. It would be great if they could remove my memory of knowing it was a simulation though, cause that would probably plague my mind.

I would blame it on the drugs and alcohol and tell myself I just imagined it all.
I mean, you have something close to that when you are on certain drugs, and its easier to pretend you never saw it. I am happy with my life and also do not have the drive to prove that it is a simulation.

Yes, I am an boring pessimist.

I'm not one just to submit to the illusion. I'd escape from the simulation, better to live in the dead "real" world than continue living a lie.

NO MORE F**KING LIES DAMNIT

Well, apparently I'm an assassin in my virtual life, so I might as well enjoy it.

I go make a post on The Escapist with the title "Anyone else just experience that shit or was I dreaming?"

If it's real, more than one person must of had the experince.

"Oh, so Descartes WAS right after all"

I would be temped to ask the programmer guy a few questions, then I'd probably go back to my simulated life.

Ask him to make my life more interesting. Maybe an alien invasion, or new poisonous insects that are attracted to the scent of people being assholes.

Bleh. Nothing much you can do in that situation. You would be all Neo during the first scenes of the "Real" world in the Matrix, beyond weak due to muscle atrophy and shit like that.

That said... If I had the strength to speak I would thank them for my life as it is these days and beg them to remove any memory of waking up. I might also ask them if the people within the simulation are real people or not. I mean, it would put my mind at ease (For the five minutes that I was "Awake") to know that.

Although... If, genuinely, this were to occur, the chances of you remembering it would be minimal. You would either think it was a particularly fucked up and realistic dream or assume you had had a psychotic break. Either way I would hope to forget.

Cause that would be pretty freaky.

Get him to type "show me the money" a few times before sending me back, money can't buy hapiness but it would certainly help in my situation! Either that or ask to run a different program, something a little more exciting preferably with aging turned off and respawns enabled

I believe I'd want to see the other world before I just go back in and so I would complain and protest.

Maybe ask the programmer to make a few adjustments to my section of the code, if it isn't too much trouble. I can think of a few tweaks I'd enjoy in the simulation.
Other than that... eh, the show must go on.

I'd know I was right in believing in the Matrix and probably wander around my simulation and smile like a retard all day long :D

Wait... So it's not my fault I'm a socially inept douche bag who can't talk to members of the opposite sex or make friends? I can dig it... Although I would like to un-hook myself and explore the future world, possibly at constant odds with what is presumably an A.I. in a sort of Chell-GLaDOS situation.

In fact I'd ask him/her/it if I could fuck Milla Jovovich. If the answer is "yes" then back into the simulation, if the answer is "no" then explore the new world and find out why I'm hooked up to a machine and why said machine created the Escapist...
