Powerglove.

They're a video game cover band, but really good at what they do.
I'd say give them a shot. The Protomen are also rock, but only really in their first album, The Protomen, which is act one of their rock opera, which is an alternate look at the Mega Man games. Their second album takes more from multiple influences, like Ennio Morricone, Bruce Springsteen, and others.

Sabaton seems to be the best metal band I know.

I just realized the irony of me posting this video.
Sabaton are awesome.

So are these guys

Just to throw something unique in, I'm going to say look at Seven Kingdom's second album (first one has some dude on vocals and it's not as good) Though if you really don't like screaming and such, stay away from Eyes to the North and you may or may not like Ones Who Breathe the Flame, though if you don't like it's intro I will burn you as a heretic.

Galneryus's last album was really good, and much heavier than their older stuff--it's probably one of my favorite albums of last year. That being said, if you actually care about lyrics, the band's Japanese, so their English lyrics tend to be... less than spectacular.

If you want something more rock-like, and heavily influenced (practically based on) retro video game music, there's Machinae Supremacy. They're my favorite band ever for a reason. Everything they've done has been nothing short of spectacular, but the best starting point would be Redeemer. That being said, I'd rather link this little ditty:

And for the heavier, more emotional side--there's Nevermore. The intensity of either descriptors depends on the album, with This Godless Endeavor being the heaviest and most musically inclined, and Dreaming Neon Black being the most goddamn depressing album I've EVER heard. Warrel is an incredible lyricist and vocalist, and he rarely disappoints.
