Global Agenda is pretty damn cool. It's a classbased MMOTPS with a heavy emphasis on Dungeons and PvP, both small and large scale. The drawbacks are that it only has one zone, that lasts you until level 18 of 50. The rest of the game is done in dungeons and on arenas.

World Of Tanks

You are ina tank WW2 era going against other tanks on 2 teams there are LOADS to choose from USA Narzi Germany and USSR tanks there also artillery too.
I like it cos its different ie not all spells swords and that it works you can Lv up train your crew rounds can be fast and long its also funny sometimes when your team gets its arse handed to it.
its also free and looks sweet to
I second this. Though it's a bit too focused on the grind and you will probably want to shell out some money just to get a few more garage spaces, I find the game to be lots of fun, especially since I just have fun with the tanks I have instead of being obsessed with getting a higher tier vehicle. I'm not sure if it falls under the classification of an MMO though, since most of your time will be spent jumping into matchmaking sessions of 30-odd players.

If you haven't played Team Fortress 2 yet, I'd recommend that as well. Again, It's not an MMO (though it shares some similarities with many MMORPG's now in the form of random drops, trading, and an overall pseudo-grind approach if you want all the unlockables) but in my opinion it's the best damn multiplayer game ever made.

I 3rd World of Tanks.

Been playing since April, and it's FANTASTIC, such a well made game. And it's 100% free.

It's got some micro-transactions granted, but they are all for convenience-sake. (faster exp, and money).

There is actually no requirement to pay for anything at all, no content locked.

I highly recommend it to any Escapists. (and hit me up if you like, "Ghostkai" [unsurprisingly], currently driving a Tiger II.)

For a F2P MMORPG that I'd recommend, you got a choice between Champions Online, City of Heroes/Villains, EverQuest II Extended or Perfect World International (most folks seem to forget PWI, probably 'cause it's not often thrown about to keep folks attention).

I say play Battlestar Gallactica Online if you're a fan of the TV Series. It's free.

And then come back here and tell me if it's worth playing.

Also City of Heroes is f2p
It's going to be F2P some time at the end of the year (I think). They announced it the day after I bought the expansion (*DOH!*)
Unless you sub you still need to buy the expansion separately so you're good.

I'd suggest either Champions Online or waiting for City of Heroes to go f2p.

It relies on user generated content and that means you can make up a dream of your own too!
