Planescape: Torment I can't recommend enough. I did like Arcanum, but it was a bit buggy.

Breathing new life into the first Diablo comes the mod The Dark. Not too challenging to install, even for a beginner, it makes for a great game. Pretty sure you need the Hellfire expansion to get it to work.

Neverwinter Nights Platinum/Diamond/Megaultra Editions are the best way to go for the full expansion and storyline experience. A really great series. Also, there's a ton of modders out there who have made some great stuff. If I had to recommend just one, it'd be Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne's work, all of it.

He's also a great writer.

...sounds better than "for great ramen"

Going through my collection myself right now, I additionally found Temple of Elemental Evil [http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_temple_of_elemental_evil] - a rather hardcore D&D 3.5 crpg, which plays almost like a tabletop session. On the downside you are pretty much forced to get a fan-made patch (the Circle of Eight modpack [http://www.moddb.com/mods/circle-of-eight-modpack]) to get it bug-free and to really get the most out of it.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura its a Tolkienesque fantasy world going through a industrial revolution. Steam punk and Tolkien, awesome.

Tohuvabohu

Not entirely serious, maybe.

That's quite a list. The only one that currently comes to mind I don't see mentioned yet is Arx Fatalis.

Why don't you check it out? I've been considering playing it again because I only tried it a little bit. I don't remember it much but I do remember thinking it was pretty good.

I found it on steam for like, 5$. It's dated so it might have issues running, looking into it a bit more.

EDIT: Found it on Good ol Games as well.

Try Daggerfall, if you don't like it it won't matter because it's free :p

Did that too, However you may want to watch some youtube tutorials on how to run it on dosbox. Beacuse it can be a pain.

I've been yankering for a good stat-based roleplaying game, not sure why, and all the ones I have are just a bit stale by now.

So I come to the escapist hoping one of you guys or ladies can suggest a good RPG. The only thing is that I do NOT play JRPG's I don't say this to incite a flamewar I say this to make sure you don't waste your breath (fingers, whatever) and I do not rule out MMO's

List of RPG's I own or have played (In no order besides what they are on my steam/memory)
Dues Ex
Dragon Age (plus awakening)
Oblivion
Morrowind
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic 2: The sith lords
Champions Online
City of Heroes
Rift
Warhammer Online
World of Warcraft
Dragon Age 2
Divinity 2
Two Worlds (sadly)
Fable 1
Fable 2
Fable 3
Diablo
Diablo 2
Dungeon Siege 3
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics

Torment and Arcanum are both must plays. The new fan patches fix nearly all the bugs.

Uhhh Wow. You pretty much played everything....... Sorry I don't got nothing that isn't already on that list. You could try to mod out one of the Bethesda games and replaying it, if you have not done so already.

EDIT: WAIT!! Witcher 2? That's not on the list. Why not try that?
I was thinking about it but Witcher 2 gets at me for two reasons
A: The protagonist is just..eh, I have nothing against ugly people as main characters but something about his long white hair and scars just makes me shudder
B: The combat makes me cringe by looking at it
C: That game will abuse my computer like its a pimp.

I find your lack of Planescape: Torment unconscionable. Fix it. Or I could get you a copy if you prefer. Amazing characters, setting, story, writing and so forth.

Arcanum is similarly amazing, and $5 on GOG. Buggy and unbalanced, though, so you'll want a patch or two, which I can direct you to. Fair bit of freedom and exploration, very nice story and incredible amounts of customization. Plus, it's steampunk. Very steampunk. While also being fantasy. Same devs as Fallout 1 and 2.

Lastly, The Spirit Engine 2. Freeware, very well made all around, and available here [http://www.frostclick.com/wp/index.php/2010/11/03/the-spirit-engine-2-near-perfect-rpg-game/]. Don't watch the video, mild spoilers.
Hmm I'll look into all of em

I'd recommend pretty much all the old Interplay/Bioware/Black Isle games like Baldur's Gate (1, TotSC, 2, Throne of Bhaal), Icewind Dale (1, 2) and Planescape Torment. Especially Baldur's Gate and Planescape should be on the list of every self-respecting fan of western RPGs.
Can you even find games that old anymore?
GOG.com - that will solve your problem for almost any old RPG you are looking for I think. They have all the old Bioware games - and they also make the attempt to patch/update them for modern gaming systems

GOG even has a sale on all Interplay games right now and Interplay has some great RPGs.

Dungeon siege 1 is still an immense game if you're not a whore about gfx and judging from that list you're not.

Kudos.

Lord of the Rings online is free these days if you need to kill your sense of enjoyment and find a reason to question life.

Btw is Rift any good?

I signed for the free trial, downloaded like 6 GB of the 8Gb file then cancelled it to do something else with my download speeds, restarted it and found it had purged all 6gb I had downloaded resulting in a rage quit.

Also currently playing Global Agenda via Steam.
Interesting FPS / RPG mix.

Dawn of War 2 is an RTS / RPG (campaign mode only)

I've heard good things about Mount and Blade as an RPG with RTS elements.

Thats all I got atm.

Just coming here to back Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines as you can get it on steam in the US.

Malkavian all the way!

Other than that you already have all of my ideas.

After reading your list, I really don't have anything to recommend.

I'm a little bit curious as to why you're opposed to JRPGs. I mean, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I would just like to hear your reasons for disliking them. I, personally, like them quite a bit more than WRPGs.

I find your lack of Planescape: Torment disturbing :) (And yes, I actually believe the game hasn't been mentioned enough in this thread).

Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer for the story. Controls and graphics aren't superb, but if you enjoy adventures wrapped around main character (no "Let's save the world today!"), MotB is also for you.

Plus if you can get over older graphics, you may want to try Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale II. They are jewels. (not as good as PS:T though)

Next time can you just lable it. Suggest a good western rpg. Geeze. You relize saying no JRPGS. your pretty much cutting the genre in half? so next time just call it somthing like "looking for western rpgs".

As for the question? Dnt know any. I hate Western RPGS there awful. What theres Fable? decent. Theres Mass effect (funny calling it a rpg) Also New vegas.... ahahaha, game was awful and broken.

Am aware you said you didn't want to start anything then all i have to say is name the title something. You'll get so many people like me and get excited like "Oh crap he should play this"

In all honesty though, no idea why new Vegas didn't a 3 (i probably would have gave it worse for the sole principle of if you dont have online the games broken). The game was literally broken for me on PC it crashed CONSTANTLY!!! like it was a 70/30% it'd crash. Yes am aware there was a patch later on, key word later. Thats inexcusable. Oblivion and fallout 3 were the same. I have no idea how we have tolerance for this crap. at first i could stand Western RPGS, but there design practices and testing is awful and pathetic. I have yet to play a JRPG that has a game breaking bug and trust me i own a lot of JRPGS.

Reason being. A lot of developers and one of my favorites Idea Factory. They said that when making a single player experience you should never need to be connected online unless you want DLC for the game, you should never be required to depend on a patch to fix your game. Multilayer games are different.

End rant/end speaking truth.
