I find your lack of Planescape: Torment disturbing :) (And yes, I actually believe the game hasn't been mentioned enough in this thread).

Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer for the story. Controls and graphics aren't superb, but if you enjoy adventures wrapped around main character (no "Let's save the world today!"), MotB is also for you.

Plus if you can get over older graphics, you may want to try Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale II. They are jewels. (not as good as PS:T though)
Yeah I found and played that for like 3 hours after this thread was made, its a good game if a bit annoying at times xD

Next time can you just lable it. Suggest a good western rpg. Geeze. You relize saying no JRPGS. your pretty much cutting the genre in half? so next time just call it somthing like "looking for western rpgs".

As for the question? Dnt know any. I hate Western RPGS there awful. What theres Fable? decent. Theres Mass effect (funny calling it a rpg) Also New vegas.... ahahaha, game was awful and broken.

Am aware you said you didn't want to start anything then all i have to say is name the title something. You'll get so many people like me and get excited like "Oh crap he should play this"

In all honesty though, no idea why new Vegas didn't a 3 (i probably would have gave it worse for the sole principle of if you dont have online the games broken). The game was literally broken for me on PC it crashed CONSTANTLY!!! like it was a 70/30% it'd crash. Yes am aware there was a patch later on, key word later. Thats inexcusable. Oblivion and fallout 3 were the same. I have no idea how we have tolerance for this crap. at first i could stand Western RPGS, but there design practices and testing is awful and pathetic. I have yet to play a JRPG that has a game breaking bug and trust me i own a lot of JRPGS.

Reason being. A lot of developers and one of my favorites Idea Factory. They said that when making a single player experience you should never need to be connected online unless you want DLC for the game, you should never be required to depend on a patch to fix your game. Multilayer games are different.

End rant/end speaking truth.
Since i lack the energy to pull a coherent argument out of my brain I'm going to make this short....

-JRPG players are mostly a minority believe it or not so I don't really plan to change a title to accommodate them.
-The english in your writing was horrid, I cringed (If it is not your primary language then I apologize in advance)
-Your main duke seems to be with Bethesda games which are well known for their crashes due to the gamebryo engine, look at my list of RPG's all of those are WRPG's and only 3 of them are bethesda, if you are going off of only three WRPG's then your judging poorly.
-Again, most WRPG's don't have horrible bugs (And I'm willing to debate with you that oblivion did) so judging on that is ridiculous.

If you can find demos, try some Japanese-made RPGs. Not all of them have emo, whiny characters. YES, most do! But don't stereotype them so readily. I certainly wouldn't want you wasting money on something you don't like, so like I said, look for good demos.

Also, you may want to clarify what level of "RPG" are you looking for. Most are action-oriented to some degree now. There's the full-on original kind, which is all turn-taking combat, and the entirely-action-with-little-RPG kind, like the new Call of Duty games with levelling up. Nothing is a pure RPG anymore.

No JRPGs? But... but Earthbound!

I'm not sure if it counts, but have you checked out Battle for Wesnoth? It's more of a tactics game, but it's got some RPG elements, and it's in the right area thematically.

EDIT: Also, second the above post. By some definitions, you can consider GTA: San Andreas to be an RPG.

YOU WON'T EVEN TRY CHRONO TRIGGER?! Well, I don't have too much to suggest since you've already listed most of the more, modern WRPGs that I woulda suggested, but uh...for MMORPGS I would suggest:

Ragnarok Online
Dungeon Fighter Online
[insert really generic MMO]

P.S: Thought I would throw out a JRPG name called "The World Ends With You". Probably one of the best character developments I've seen in quite a while. You don't have to try it, just putting it out there.

I was thinking about it but Witcher 2 gets at me for two reasons
A: The protagonist is just..eh, I have nothing against ugly people as main characters but something about his long white hair and scars just makes me shudder
B: The combat makes me cringe by looking at it
C: That game will abuse my computer like its a pimp.
I'd highly recommend that game. Buy it off of GOG though as though I like steam, the GOG offer is better (and no retailer scum slicing off profits disproportionate).

Gerald is a pretty good character once you get down to it. He isn't either end of the spectrum (or shouldn't be), he will do good but he does need to eat, drink and buy stuff so he happily takes money if he sees it. Forget the face, if your shuddering then stop being a little girl about your gaming, he is a man gone through so much he'll have scars everywhere (fact).

The combat is brilliant... once you get used to it. You need to dodge, you need to run away, you need to plan, you need to use your spells. If you throw yourself in... you will die... because your a mortal... not a demi-god.

Finally if your computer has been built well... 4 years ago it will handle it (with the patch, so that is legal purchase). Once the DRM is gone the frame rate improves quite a bit... kinda.
I think it was a hugely smart move of them so that illegal versions are shit and wont run properly, but legal versions will.

If I want a good RPG, I usually go oldschool & pop in Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate. I also love Dungeon Siege, but it's not that story oriented. There's also Diablo 1 which for some reason is still my favorite out of the series.

Damn somebody already beat me to suggesting Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, one of the most underrated RPGs out there.

I would suggest The Witcher 1. Overall a better game in my opinion than the Witcher 2 other than the boring combat (gets better as you progress) and the backtracking between quests.

The story is a lot better though and doesn't fall apart at the end. You also feel more like a super powered mutated monster hunter as you can take down groups of enemies with ease (boss battles are still challenging) and don't need to roll out of the way every time a monster swipes at you. The spells also feel powerful and not like "level 1 magic missiles" of the Wither 2. The difficulty is less annoying in The Witcher 1, you feel more like the game is challenging you to devise strategies to fight monsters than forcing you to figure out pure exploits to win. Also there's fewer stupid gameplay rules like having to meditate to drink potions.

Also it won't abuse your computer like a pimp (I could run it on medium/high graphics on a
GeForce 8600M GT.) The game should be cheaper now too.

Make sure to download the free Enhanced Edition patch too if you do get it. It adds a lot to the game.

Alright since you'll just do the generic argument of the escapist of attacking the users spelling and intelligence instead of arguing the points i said.

I'll keep this short. In essence theres like 10+ different rpg genres but your ignoring it all and dividing RPGS as either. JRPGS and WRPGS. When you do that you split the RPG genre in half. I'll assure you JRPGS are far from the miniority? when did you grow up? JRPGS are what really popularized the genre to gaming. You cant denie that. Look what the original FF did for the genre of RPGS. Then look at what FF7 did. Then don't forget what the Disgaea series did for tactical rpgs... wait back up, look at what fire emblem did for that sub genre and that was released in 1990.

Look bro am gonna try to be less hostile am done my rant but i just have to correct you. Sure maybe now theres a influx of popularity for WRPGS because of the boom of consoles and the casual market. But when it comes to the masterpieces and the RPGS that really pushed the genre for consoles, most of them (i know theres some wrpgs) are JRPGS.

So just your a fool to think JRPGS are the minority here. Now if you'll excuse me i recently imported Record of Agarest War 2 another great JRPG series thats doing new and interesting things.

Dungeons and Dragons. The PnP one. Its anything and everything you can want in a RPG (with the right DM that is)
Want action? DnD
Want adventure? DnD
Want interesting and deep roleplaying and story telling? DnD

The only real issue is just finding the right people...and buying the books.

Torchlight! Arcanum! Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale! Neverwinter Nights, maybe. And because I'm obstinate about them anyway, Earthbound and Mother 3. But seriously, the first two. Soon as I get a bit of cash, I'll be checking into Planescape: Torment. Oh, and Chrono Trigger. Just because.

I think Rogue Galaxy may be classified as a JRPG... if not, it's pretty close, so not sure if you'd like it all that much.

Well why I am assumeing the OP likes WRPG's, Are beacuse you can actualy place yourself as a character. Which is why I prefer it, Aside from hate of anime... But i'm not sure if the OP does. Also, While they may have better storys they genrally are not open world, Or as much of an open world as some of the WRPG's. Also... Clothing is ridiculous :p

We do know true RPG players don't give a shit about graphics anyways.

Alot of ppl wont go near a jrpg because of the artstyle alone.

They seem to be aimed at the younger audiences anyway with those types of characters and stories.
I found those first two statements I pointed out to be slightly paradoxical. Secondly I would disagree with the other statement as well. I mean what JRPG's have you been playing?

Persona 3 was given an M by the ESRB. It had depictions of suicide. Actually scratch that suicide and despair was probably the main theme in that.

The Suikoden series generally has a bit too much politics to apply well to children either.

I'm not saying there aren't JRPG's that are maybe more childish, but you have those in WRPG's as well.

As for the art style, yes Japanese games in general have a distinct art style that makes it more cartoony, but that's like saying Team Fortress looks rubbish.

I get bored of overly realistic games quickly, I have reality for most of that (also why I don't play sport games).

Try System Shock 2 if you can get your hands on it. Granted the RPG elements are pretty thin, but the great story should make up for it.
