I suppose I could go into a long explaination of my suggestion and why it is awesome and why everyone should give it a chance (at least 5 episodes), but it's late, I'm tired, and I want to go to bed, so I'll just save time by saying this:

LOOK AT MY AVATAR AND MY CUSTOM TITLE! LOOK AT THEM!!!

I'll write more once I wake up in about 8 hours or so...
Actually, I recognized it when I was looking through Netflix a few weeks back because I remembered it as an avatar I see on these forums all the time XD
Oh, good. That saves me some trouble then. Even still, I highly recommend it, as it is rather interesting, though admittedly very niche.

Okay, I seriously have to go to bed now. Damn the Escapist for being so awesome!
People are saying its a "thinking anime"... GOOD!
Get ready for a lot of exciting talks about economics, trade and mercantilism! Also naked wolf girls.
Well it is anime. With shows about headless ghost biker chicks and immortal mafia enforcers naked wolf girls talking about stock exchange comes with the territory XP

I know this thread is made a zillion times a day, but the Netflix search function is crapping out and my browsing capabilities are shot at the moment. Anyway, I am sure there are many of you who have been watching anime on Netflix since Funimation gave them half their library and I was wondering if there's a great series out there I haven't seen yet. I typically prefer action with some comedy sprinkled in, but it pretty much has to have a strong and mature narrative and characters, otherwise I'll just fall asleep watching it.

Stuff I have seen on netflix:

Darker than Black
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Speed Grapher (weird shit)
Eden of the East
Claymore
Baccano
Full Metal Panic (meh)
Soul Eater
Gunslinger Girl (fucking depressing)
Ghost in the Shell (both seasons)
There are a few other I have probably seen, but I didn't watch them on Netflix

Stuff I have no interest in:
Bleach
Naruto
Ouran Host Club (OH GOD MAKE IT STOP)

Thanks and inb4 "use the search function".
I liked Speed Grapher, I thought it was interesting. Anyway how about Dokkoida or Durarara!!? (the question mark was the end of the sentence not a error in the name) Hell you could watch FLCL if you haven't already seen it.
I am pretty sure everyone posting in an anime thread has seen FLCL by now XD. But yeah, I liked Speed Grapher too... it just had... some really odd moments.

Don't get me wrong, I loved both Spice and Wolf and Durarara! I've been out of the anime game for a while now though; pretty lost touch with it all after seeing the Eden of the East movie about a year ago. I wonder if I missed anything good...

Have you seen the second movie (or the second half or whatever)? The first one was on Netflix, but I found it really boring (not that the series had a lot going on either).

Nope! Like I said, I pretty much lost all connection with anime after watching that movie. Too much going on to keep up with the weekly downloading and watching and hunting for new shows. I've had Bakemonogatari on my computer for about a year and half now and still haven't seen the first episode...

You should check out Ghost Hound. It was written by Masamune Shirow (who also wrote Ghost in the Shell) and directed by the same guy who directed Serial Experiments Lain and Kino's Journey. It's fairly underground, or at least it seems to me like it is cause I haven't talked to a lot of people who've seen it, but of the people I know who have seen it they all enjoyed it as much as I did. It's especially good if you like an anime with some depth as well as a healthy dose of psychological themes and theoretical quantum/new age physics. I highly suggest it.

True, very true, on both accounts. How about Canaan, oh wait I can already see half the forum has recommended it to you.

Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne

It's six episodes long full of violence nudity and awesomness, and if that hasn't sold you I don't know what will.

Watch FLCL *Fooly Cooly*

Only six episodes long and one of the best animes EVER. Ive watched it over 50 times and still notice something new and smart.

Also, try out Rin: daughter of Mnemosyne. Ive only watched 2 epps out of the 6, but they are an hour long each which is interesting enough for me. Since when are animes an hour long? Quick synopsis from what Ive seen, protagonist cannot die, and they use this for gruesome torture sequences and somewhat excessive fan service. Altogether enjoyable so far.

Yeah, just started watching it. Journalist characters in the first 3 minutes? I am sold.

If they have Code geass i cant reccomend it enough. The storyline and characters are by the far the best out of any other anime iv ever seen and the action scenes are pretty damn good to. Very pro anarchist and umm it has gaint robots so if that floats your boat to then yourll love it.

When I finally got around to watching Spice & Wolf, by halfway through the series I was thinking "What the hell? Am I watching an anime all about medieval economics and trade practices... and enjoying it?"

One of my favorite animes is still Tengen Toppa Gurren Langan. Last time I checked it was on there, though I suppose it may have disappeared. But yeah, you should definitely watch it. Great show.
