I actually just watched Black Butler and Last Exile. Both of them were a lot of fun.
Last Exile looks pretty cool from the synopsis. Looks like steam-punk in space or something.

One of my favorite animes is still Tengen Toppa Gurren Langan. Last time I checked it was on there, though I suppose it may have disappeared. But yeah, you should definitely watch it. Great show.
Yeah I watched it before it was up on Netflix. Definitely one of my favorites.

Watch Elfen Lied, it's very hit or miss from the reviews I've seen. I thought it was great. I'd tell you more about it, but i'm kind of tired. :p

I suppose I could go into a long explaination of my suggestion and why it is awesome and why everyone should give it a chance (at least 5 episodes), but it's late, I'm tired, and I want to go to bed, so I'll just save time by saying this:

LOOK AT MY AVATAR AND MY CUSTOM TITLE! LOOK AT THEM!!!

I'll write more once I wake up in about 8 hours or so...
Actually, I recognized it when I was looking through Netflix a few weeks back because I remembered it as an avatar I see on these forums all the time XD
Oh, good. That saves me some trouble then. Even still, I highly recommend it, as it is rather interesting, though admittedly very niche.

Okay, I seriously have to go to bed now. Damn the Escapist for being so awesome!
People are saying its a "thinking anime"... GOOD!
Get ready for a lot of exciting talks about economics, trade and mercantilism! Also naked wolf girls.
Well it is anime. With shows about headless ghost biker chicks and immortal mafia enforcers naked wolf girls talking about stock exchange comes with the territory XP
Don't get me wrong, I loved both Spice and Wolf and Durarara! I've been out of the anime game for a while now though; pretty lost touch with it all after seeing the Eden of the East movie about a year ago. I wonder if I missed anything good...
Have you seen the second movie (or the second half or whatever)? The first one was on Netflix, but I found it really boring (not that the series had a lot going on either).
Nope! Like I said, I pretty much lost all connection with anime after watching that movie. Too much going on to keep up with the weekly downloading and watching and hunting for new shows. I've had Bakemonogatari on my computer for about a year and half now and still haven't seen the first episode...
Don't do the weekly downloading bro. It's overrated. Just find what you like and watch an ep or two before bed. Works like a charm. Hell, my current obsession is Zeta Gundam and that came out in '85!

OP: I'm gonna recommend Spice & Wolf based on what I've heard. Eden was my first choice but you've already seen that.

Can anyone recommend some mature anime?
Ones without spastic anime goofyness, exaggerated shonen machismo or pretentious pseudointellectualism? (I liked Gits at points but by the second movie more than half the script was just ripped quotes from philosophers/the Bible or eggheaded monologuing)

I'm preety sure at least the first 2 seasons of Hell girl are on there, so yeah watch them. The first seasons a bit slow but the second season is amazing. Spice and Wolf is pretty good too. If Baccano! is on there then watch it. If you liked Durarara then you'll probably like Baccano!

Watch the Ninja Scroll movie then if they have it watch the Ninja Scroll TV Series.

They definitely have One Piece so if you've not seen it yet watch that one.

Black Lagoon is also a really awesome series.

If Durarara!! is on there, watch that. Its plot reveals are always interesting, its characters are actually likable, and it's always entertaining.

I've always had a soft spot for Trigun, since they ran it on Adult Swim back in the day.

Netflix also carries Death Note but only in the original Japanese with subs, no dub work
