Im gunna throw in my hat for the Dawn of War & Total War series... just stay the hell away from Dawn of War II, and Empire: Total War and you will be fine.

Both are the most recent, and entirely underwhelming installments.

Dawn of War II strips away all the strategy, and Empire: Total War is a buggy, unfinished piece of shit that was released as a quick cash boost while creative assembly tweaked the new game engine to smooth out the rough edges for when they release Napoleon: Total War.

If you get into Dawn of War, you have to pick up the Firestorm Over Kronus mod. [http://www.fok.dow-mods.com/] It rebalances the game in accordance to codex, updates the graphics, AI, Animations, adds a ton of new units and new armys and fleshes out aspects of the game that were previously a little malnourished.

Check out the teaser trailer for FoK [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neXHcn0lV9A], if that doesn't get your blood pumping, nothing will.

Wasn't that the single least liked game of the entire series?
That's what I thought. I only really liked Red Alert ones though.

OT: Strategy in a turn based sense alright? Civilisation 4? Feeling it? No? Ok.

I need to try Sins of a Solar Empire. Apparently its very well received.

Starcraft and Warcraft 3.
Both will run fine, as Starcraft is 13 years old and Warcraft 3 is around 5.
World of Warcraft is already 5 years old, it's gotta be more than that.

Your title feels like a command, and I feel incredibly disinclined to comply.

However, it appears my "Acts of Uncalled-For Generosity" counter allows me to grant one last act.

I recommend you get the game "Outlive", or the "Blitzkreig" Anthology.

Pretty close to how I feel, except I didn't try DoW:2 past the demo as it seemed to be more focused on multiplayer and I need a good campaign to be satisfied. And I loved Empire, however despite all the patches it still corrupts all my saves half way through a grand campaign, which angers me immensely.

Considering how highly they were all regarded, that's not saying much, and it's still an amazing game. My personal least favourite was Tiberium Wars, but even that had some great points.

Hehe, sorry. I was trying to be succinct. Thanks for being the better man, I haven't heard of those two and will look them up.

Lot of people suggesting Age of Mythology, I think public opinion dictates that I must find copies of that after I'm done d/ling the classic C&Cs. :)

I'm going to toss Medieval II: Total War out there as well. If you were liking the look of Empire TW, you'll get a great experience with M2. Despite the period being different (obviously), there is no naval combat mode. All naval battles are auto-resolved, but I never really hit the sea for more than troop transport and blockading enemy ports when I had an overpowering force.

I'll also say that the expansion, Kingdoms, is equally awesome and you can get the whole thing as a bundle for dirt cheap. $20 on Amazon [http://www.amazon.com/Medieval-Gold-Pack-Total-Kingdoms-Pc/dp/B000YQ639M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1253827497&sr=8-1].

The wonders of Marketing. The demo was quite deceptive, they tried to prop up the weakest aspect of the game with pre-launch hype. They released the DoW II multiplayer demo as a teaser, yet what you saw in the demo... was the ENTIRE multiplayer experience, that was it, a handful of tiny maps and a highly unbalanced multiplayer game.

The single player/co-op campaign for DoW II is one of the best I have ever seen, its rich, detailed, action packed with a decent story. Play it solo or with a friend and its highly entertaining, but I need multiplayer to keep me sitting through a RTS, beating up on AI's is no fun and I have a good group of buddies that all love RTS games.

Same with Empire: Total War. Creative assembly for 2 years, hyped up the player base about their brand new, ultra cool Multiplayer Campaign Mode, something that fans of the series had been asking for for years. A month or so before launch, long after Pre-orders had been up, Creative Assembly announced that the Multiplayer Campaign was being cut back to small scale, and would only only allow 2 people to play Campaign mode together... then just before launch Creative Assembly announced that they Multiplayer Campaign mode was not going to be included with the main game but their would be a beta version shortly after release... still to this day, there is no Multiplayer Campaign... but Creative Assembly assure people it will be out before the release of Napoleon: Total War.

Creative Assembly can go suck on my left nut. I was a die hard fan of the series from Shogun onwards and they outright lied to me. I am not buying another Creative Assembly game... ever. My displeasure with how they have conducted themselves over Empire will be protested with my wallet.

The bugs with Empire are bad enough, but I can forgive bugs... as long as they are patched in due time. What I can not forgive, is depict, followed by nickle and dime, micro payment DLC bullshit, when the game is still a buggy piece of shit and even a Multiplayer campaign beta is no where in sight.

World in Conflict is absolutely amazing, if a little bit of a system-hog...

Also, Sins of a Solar Empire is great - deep exploration, colonisation and empire building, but in real-time. It's a slow burner, but I'd highly recommend it.

Europa Universalis III is amazing. With the two expansions, I've spent a few hundred hours on this beast of a game. It's a Grand-Scale Strategy game or whatever you call them.
