Suggestions for a properly scary game

Read the original post before you post, i stated ive already played amnesia.

Sorry bout that . Just skimmed over it . Just the same, after Amnesia I'm not sure there is anything else. Remembering Yahtzee, there are also the games mentioned here: Condemned series, Penumbra series, Silent Hill till the third one and The original Siren Blood Curse. Dead Space is nice, only a bit scary since you are pretty effective. The game had a weird bug though (on PC), if you enable vertical sync, it would load five times slower. So mine was loading seven minutes or so every time I died. Then I was pretty scared of death, since I did despise the long loading time.

- Alter Ego
- The Path

And if you value mindfu*k stories a'la Harlan Ellison, and you're not afraid of VERY old graphics, then i recommend "I have no mouth but i must scream".

Dead Space's combat system works. It just needs better enemies.

Add that to the list.

OT: The Penumbra games, it´s more or less amnesia but got some crappy combat thrown in.

People have already mentioned these but you really ought to try them if you want to scare yourself stupid:

- Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 (4 spends too much time confusing the hell out of you so is less scary).

- Condemned 1 (and to a lesser extent number 2 - less scares though).

- Dead Space 1 and 2 offer some jumpy thrills and the atmosphere both games is classic horror.

- And for a quick and fairly scary experience, give Limbo a try - it's dark, disturbing and pretty frightening to get through.

Will second Condemned and offer the sequel Condemned 2: Bloodshot as well.

Only the first half of Condemned 2 though. After that you get stupid superpowers and the thing devolves into an FPS. Not that the shooting is that bad, actually I love the FPS mechanics, but dammit it just doesn't fit with Condemned. Not scary either.

Other than that I can't really offer much to this topic. I didn't find Dead Space scary either. They keep playing music when monsters are coming, so far for that surprise...
