I could write thirty pages, easily, of recommendations for this game, but I'll condense them into essentials for the sake of brevity:

1. NEW MAIN CHARACTER--this should go without saying, in fact, the gameplay needs a rebuild from the ground up starting with the main character. What I would personally REALLY like to see is Bioware introduce another character with a significantly different background (a civilian trader, I think, would work best with what I anticipate the plot being about). I'd like to see a completely different set of classes and skill sets oriented around this theme. I'd also like to see this middle game revolve more around solving puzzles and less around shooting things up--maybe only have a single type of weapon available for the main character but a lot of interesting skill and puzzle-related options as would be appropriate for a civilian. I also think it would be quite neat if your character in the 1st game became an NPC in the 2nd game, finishing up in the projected third game with your first two characters as NPC's and forming your three-person team for the Grand Finale. Which is why I think having dramatically different skill sets for the games would be Awesome, because you could end up with some seriously interesting combos in the final game.
It would be cool, but they've said they're sticking with Shep the entire trilogy. Cool idea though. As for the rest...interesting, but I don't think Bioware will do anything about them.

Oh, and the last one about the codex? Way to much info for them to possibly give it all in game without it being unbearably boring. Better to have it in the codex which you can read at your leisure.

Seriously it better work like an expansion or something, so that everything I did in the first game has impact on the sequel. For instance in my version Wrex lived and became Shepard's best buddy, I want to see him come back.
In my version I saved the council and humanity joined the council, I wanna see that too.
In my version I saved the Rachni from extinction, I want closure on that.
Finally Ash was my late night lover in the first game and I kind of want to see that continue.

Basically I want to think my choices from the first game made an impact on the second one. Shepard really better not die either, without him I don't see how I can have fun in the sequel.
They've claimed that all your choices from the first game will have an impact on ME2 through imported saves. Still, if Molyneax(sp?) has taught us anything...
Yeah... don't hope too hard I guess.
There's no such thing as magical pixy dust in the game world.
Yeah. Still, by the time it comes out (assuming it sticks to it's timetable) they'll have been working on it for 3 years (more, actually, since they claimed to have started working on it before the original even shipped). If such a system is feasible, chances are they've found it.
Yeah that's hopeful, I get the feeling I'll be replaying Mass Effect 1 though in order to fix up a couple of mistakes I did, I'll keep everything that I did on purpose though obviousy.

Not at all, and actual good writers *excel* at this. The Codex entries are unnecessarily long and useless.

The trick is to reveal the information as part of other ongoing activities. Instead of having you endlessly wandering around the promenade randomly questioning alien passers-by (and having NPC's deliver lengthy lectures on the subject), the info should be doled out in micro-fragments when it's guaranteed to be the most shocking/bizarre. This is the Show, Don't Tell principle of writing. Even better, since the main character actually speaks (and is a high-ranking military professional), a lot of exposition can be done by having the main character deliver it.

This is the way you learn most things in real life or by watching a movie or a novel, but video games writers are stuck in this info-dump/tutorial ideology that causes them to bore the crap out of you by trying to cram all the exposition in at once. This is also bad because it leaves large portions of the game without anything really interesting to learn about.

More combat, and the ability to shoot people.
And some kind of space combat would be cool.
Different Buggies.

Make the combat good this time, and get rid of all the stupid micromanagement equip crap, and make the planets actually fun to explore!

Seriously, am I the only one that was massively dissapointented with the first game?

Haven't played mass effect myself... i just have a hard time believing a game is good when the only thing i hear about it is "it has tEH sexxorz"... I'm not against sexual content in games, but if it's the selling point i'm just gonna go find some rfee internet porn instead tbh

So i guess my suggestion is to include something that'll get mentione apart from the sex
Good god...how is that the selling point? Honestly, Fox News fiasco aside, I've heard barely any mention of the sex. It really is a good game, the optional sex scene is only 40 seconds out of a 20-30 hour long epic.

Anyway, I think more variety in the side missions would be good, which they've said they're doing. Making a lot of obscure references to the first game (i.e, the shifty looking cow) would be good too.

Also, if they make Shepard die, then come back to life, I want whatever they used to bring him back to life used on Nihlus immediately. Seriously, they should have his corpse, no reason why not.
Yah, more side missions.

Another thing they should have is alien home planets, and more of the Citadel (I expect that one will be in the game). I'd really like to dive headfirst into these different alien cultures, especially Palaven and the Flotilla.

I want all of my party members back! Well, most of them. Kaiden's optional. But they were so fleshed-out...I'd rather not have a tabula rasa for the next game where I have to get to know everyone all over again. Plus, what could have happened to those who survived at the end of ME1? What, did Ashley/Tali/Liara/Kaiden/Wrex/Garrus all get AIDs and die?

C'mon Bioware, give the people what they want.

Well, duh. Shepard says at the end the Reapers are still coming from darkspace or wherever the hell the Reapers live, so I surmise that the Reapers definitely have some sort of backup plan. They are sentient machines, after all- why put all your eggs in just one basket? It doesn't make sense.

I have just bought the first Mass Effect, and haven't progressed very far, so i'll most likely find other things to complain about, anyway, major thing is that you can't unequip weapons, my character only uses pistols and snipers, why should I carry an assault rifle and a shotgun as well? Also, the armour for females looks horrible o,O

how about they release it when it's actually finished and tested, then people wont have to call it 'Ass effect 2'

Both of those are true, and I get the impression they're going to fix that (don't quote me on that though). Hope you enjoy it :) How far are you so far?

I realize that they said they weren't putting space flight/combat in until the third one, but I'd rather have them include it in ME2 and get it right in ME3.

I know what you mean, but it's almost better that they start building now and hold off until it's really perfected. I can see why you want them to release it now so they can get a sense of what's good and what isn't though. Maybe they'll have some kind of open Beta for the space combat to get feedback.

If they really do go through with the space combat thing, I really want it to kick ass for number 3, although I'm still reminded of the Dragonfly minigame from Jade Empire. It was for that game, but I can't see that really...um, working with Mass Effect.

We'll just have to wait and see. But I have high expectations for this game.

It would be hard for them to make it worse than the Mako...

Honestly, I didn't find the Mako all that bad. Could have been better, sure, but not as bad as everyone says.

Precisely. They get it wrong (inevitably) and then fix it for the next game.

It was just so clunky and awkward... and it wasn't just the vehicle itself but the utter tedium of the repetitive missions that utilised it... that treck up the snowy mountain was painful!
