So, I know this is probably a bit late in the comings for the gaming community but the Mass Effect 3 endings... or should I say ending. Singular.

I'm Merchant Navy and was at sea when ME3 was released so I went out my way not to read any reviews, watch any videos or even talk to my friends on the subject so I could experience the game to the fullest without outside opinion.

BY GOD I WISH I DID.

Ever since the Final Fantasy series went down the drain, Mass Effect has been my favourite gaming franchise, I have spent God knows how many hours building characters, experiencing all endings/romances/desicions. I have even shed tears at the sadder moments and felt happiness at the more uplifting ones. And when playing through the game, I couldn't help think that this, this game, may be the first (in my opinion) to finish off it's series in absolute perfection.

How wrong I was.

The ending came. The horrible, soul destroying, mind numbing ending. After bringing the galaxy together, making impossible alliances, losing several friends (in-game), making peace between century old enemies and uniting all the peoples of the galaxy under one mighty, solid banner... Shepard dies, Mass Effect Relays destroyed and all my crew/friends/romance option and of course, the rest of citizens of the galaxy... well who the hell knows?

Closure? Obviously not. Satisfied? Not even close. I actually sat in my chair and stared at my TV for like 10 minutes after the credits had rolled by (thought there may have been more to the ending after the credits, all sneaky like) hoping to God or whatever celestial power would listen that I had not just wasted over 500 hours of my life in this franchise. But alas, it was so.

I have still not read reviews or watched videos and I don't think I will because Bioware and EA have struck a blow straight to the heart of me that perhaps, with time, scar over but I doubt will ever actually heal.

Why? The question I ask is 'Why'? Why would Bioware and EA do this to us, the fans, the players, knowing how much we looked forward to this game, to the end of what I can only call an epic saga for most of us. Why, why, why, why?

This is Lord_Nemesis (AKA Andy Lamin), depressed and let down fan signing out.

The problem is they fired their lead writer from 1 and 2. Furthermore their project manager and their new lead writer are the ones that ended up writing the new ending without input from any other writers. They thought their idea was brilliant, which it may have been, but when you are making a product to be enjoyed by the masses, even if you consider it art, you have to make it in a way that is understandable by said masses.

Welcome to the fleet.

HOLD THE LINE!!!
Don't think I can, unless they bring out a DLC, Mass Effect games have been taken off my games shelf and put into the deepest, darkest space I could find in my apartment.

And i ask you , why was the ending bad? Because the good guys didn't save the day ? You didn't mention the god child being thing , therefor i understand that you were wanting a happy ending? I mean i find that ending to be more mature that a lot of the childish rainbow and lollipop endig that we see over and over again . I find this to be refreshing.

It's not that Shepard dies; it's that the ending is of unspeakably poor quality. It takes all the themes, characters and moral choices that the trilogy has built on...and tosses them out the door for no good reason. We don't know what happens to the galaxy, we don't know what happens to our friends; for all we know the destruction of the Mass Relays wiped out half the galaxy.

I could go on and on and on about how bad the ending is, both from the standpoint of a fan and from a technical literary standpoint. I feel envious of people who think the ending is acceptable because I cannot bring myself to consider it as anything other than inexcusable and pathetic. Doubly so because the rest of the game was so great.

Why? It's damn obvious that they were going to release more dlc down the line and they want you to buy it to get the closure you're looking for.
