Suicide Note

Though the article is quite old, this is definitely news to me (and the search function didnt exactly reveal anything). And I am starting to go through this man's amazing suicide note. It's actually very disturbing, because this is quite possibly one of the best philosophical works of the last few centuries and the author isn't exactly around to defend it. Perhaps it's that he isn't around, and he can put down pretty much whatever he wants. But anyone who writes a 1905 page suicide note and then actually does commit suicide, is pretty damn sure of themselves.

Any opinions on this man and his work?

As for the article, that's pretty crazy. Though... I think that if I ever came to that point myself, I probably would write quite alot too, if only to try to help people understand why, you know? I'm sure I'd have alot to say.

You know, some people end their dissertation with a concluding paragraph. Blowing your brains out in front of 30 people is a damn messy autograph that rather drags down the quality of the overall product.

The human mind is an incredible organ indeed in that it can, with adequate conviction to the contrary, convince itself to override its own survival mechanisms. However, if intelligence is truly a measure of adaptation, those who commit suicide inevitably prove themselves possessing lacking the specific intelligence to adapt to life.

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say the dude wanted to be famous at any cost. He decided his odds are pretty good if he wrote a big tome of philosophical claptrap and mailed it to everyone he knew before he offed himself in public. This became the insane mission he talked himself into. Take the biggest attention whore you know and see it diminished compared to this guy.

Never confuse eloquence speech and flowery sentiment as demonstrative of a higher path. It didn't work out well for Nazi Germany, either.

Oh I assumed this was about a very short sequel to Death note
sounds interesting, but I have too many things I have to read already. You'd think that writing for that long would give you a new lease on life and maybe make you rethink your choice to kill yourself. oh well at least he will live on as the most determined suicidal person of all time.

Suicide Note is a masterpiece of modern philosophy and a brilliant application of socio-biological theory to politics. I have read 400 pages of it so far, and have been unable to put it down.

The book is a magnificently written, unbelievably well researched...

It is not in print, actually. It would be really hard to print it, seeing as the original author is quite dead.

I want to read it now. Personally I don't find the concept of suicide as absurd and unjustifiable as most people, and I'm already a complete nihilist, so either I'll read it and agree with a lot of it, or it'll be an interesting look into the mind of a psychotic whom shares similar ideals that I do for completely different reasons. In either case I'm interested.

Intelligence isn't necessarily a measure of adaption and adaption doesn't always necessarily correlate with survival. I haven't even started to read this yet, so I don't know the reasoning behind why he killed himself, but I definitely wouldn't jump to the conclusion that lack of intelligence was a contributing factor to the suicide of somebody who can spend 2000 pages justifying it.

Given that he eventually committed suicide, it's not that surprising his essay came to the conclusion of utter nihilism...I'm not sure that's good grounds for suicide, even if you do spend 2,000 pages try to justify it...

Having dealt with suicidal thoughts in the past, I have come to the conclusion that if I can't take MY life anymore, then I have given up hope. That doesn't mean I should just end it. If I did reach that point, I would go on a rampage doing whatever I wanted to regardless of morals or law. Imagine walking up to a hot girl and smacking her in the ass and not giving a shit. It doesn't matter if you wind up broke or in jail, cuz you were just going to kill yourself anyways. Destroy everything you can, and once you get to the point where you really have nothing else to live for, that is when you take your own life.

He spent his last time on Earth painstakenly typing a long, long suicide note. If I'm going to Kobain myself, I'm gonna reign as much hell before hand as possible.
