Hey Escapists,

It's the summer and for people still in school or college its the time we can use to better ourselves or relax. I'm trying to better myself physically through working out and cutting back on some stuff. I know a gaming site isn't the place to post this, but I've gotta believe that there are some athletes on this site, whether your a pro-Ultimate player or used to be on the high school football team. I'm posting here to see if anyone has any work out advice on what I should focus on when working out. I have access to my friend's country club's fitness room, a pair of free weights at home and a treadmill to work with.

What I want to work on over the summer is my body/belly. I'm in an okay shape, I'm in the kinda shape that is the real average build for high school kids my age. I've got little love handles, and a my stomach barley bulges but I want to lose it before school starts up again soon, and definitely before camps start. If there's any advice on what kind of schedule I could try, I'd appreciate it. I'd also appreciate it if anyone could pass on some type of advice that could cure sore muscles so I can keep working out harder in the morning.

If you need specifics about my status physically, please feel free to quote me.

Thanks guys

If your country club's got a ladder-climber, get on that, works out pretty much everything at once, really helps the stomach.

The basic. Run, sit-ups and push-ups and a balanced diet. My advice, screw the treadmill and run around a field or something.

There's not really much that can be done for sore muscles however this should eventually fade once you get used to it , relaxing(resting) and probably some painkillers...But you do need to rest.

You ain't going to get into shape over night, these things take time. Also, you're trying to get into shape not kill yourself.

.

What doesn't kill you makes yourself, plus I'm trying to adopt the philosophy hating your body and never being satisfied with your current status, even if you're herculean.

OT: What about any free weight exercises or diet tips. Or what about cold baths? I heard those stop sore muscles?

ive done a course in personal training, kinda, and what they told us was that the change in diet is most important for fat loss. a good trick is to wait about 2 hours after eating then working out. start with wieghts, because it sounds like you want to tone up as well, and concentrate on the big mucle groups such as chest, back, legs, shoulders. dont go too hard, and about 3 sets of 12 reps each.

the wieghts will burn through your carbohydrate stores, which is the primary source of fuel, and then start cardio, running and all that, because now you will use fat as fuel. then after that you can do core work.

after the work out wait a bit to eat again beceause the muscles use more fats to repair. and dont worry about sore muscles. unless you are elite then the cold baths do not do much and no painkillers. for this you really only need to lift wieghts about twice a week. and you wont need protien shakes or anything either. cardio should be everyday and at least for 10 minutes, though it sounds like you will do more, more the better in cardios case just pace yourself.

you may end up gaining wieght, but that is just muscle. i used this kind of a program on my preactice client, and in six weeks they had lost 10 cm of their chest, waist hip and thigh mesurements.

I'd skip the running and the weights. Especially the running, I hate that crap.

This'll probably come off a bit like an advertisement, but I usually get kicked out of the advice forum 5 minutes after I come in here so I don't really care.

I've used Insanity(http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/insanity.do) with quite a bit of success. It's difficult as a starting off point, but it's pretty effective.

It's also pretty expensive. Especially for someone in high school. Hypothetically, you could probably do a google search to help with that, but I can't help you there for obvious reasons.
